Racing Brake 2 Piece Open Slot Rotor Review (W/Pix!)

I just got my Racing Brake rotors and pads today. I wasted no time in installing them on my 2003 Type S. Install went very smoothly, except the old rotors were seized on, so after a bit of googling and finess, i finally got the old rotors off. With my rotors, i was recomended and chose the Racing Brake ET800 pads. These i think are a perfect fit for the high end 2 piece rotors. One thing to note, for whatever reason, racing brake has made these rotors a few MMs or so smaller than the OEM rotors, so the pads overhang just very very slightly. These rotors fit several different vehicles, so I'm not sure it is this way with every model acura they fit (2G Cl, 3G/4G TL and 1G/2G Tsx) I was told by Racing Brake and Marcus from heeltoe this will not affect braking performance what so ever.

So I got in the car and went for a little drive. I bed in the brakes as per Heeltoe and Racing Brakes Recomendations/Instructions and got them nice and hot. 6-8 35-25 stops and 2-3 65-40 stops, with a 15 minute cooling period at the end. Man oh man, once i got these pads bed in, what a huge improvement. The braking is awesome. The ET800 Pads have some serious bite to them. They work from ambient temp all the way past 1250 degrees or more. They are a track/street pad. Ive only put about 75 miles or so on them, and so far there is no noise like many other high performance brake pads have. Over time that may change, but the huge improvement in braking performance will be worth it. There is also more than likely going to be more brake dust build up with these pads over stock, but i wash my car frequently so thats not of concern to me.

Ive also got Legend calipers on my car, so that will give me more of an improvement too over someone that just puts the pads/rotors on there vehicle. The Calipers were on the vehicle before i puts these rotors/pads on.

I will most likely update this thread in a few weeks, after I've put a few more miles on the vehicle. So far I'm very impressed, and i dont think that will change. These are the best 2piece stock size rotors you can buy, and in my opinion the pads can't be beat. This is an expensive upgrade, but in my opinion well worth it.

Here are some pix of my set up

2 piece RB Open Slot Rotors
Legend 2 Piston Calipers
SS Brake Lines
RB ET800 Pads

I know the Calipers are Dirty/Not neat looking, but i will be getting them powder coated in a week or so, along with my rear calipers

The vents are going the right direction but,it does look odd to seeing the slots going that way.
Seams like they would wear faster like that.
Maybe a way to get you to pay for disc's more frenquently.
Company's are not going to make bullit proof anything.

OP,Does your car feel any faster in the corners now.
A friend of mine was here the other night that does dirt car racing and he was bragging about some aluminum caliper and light weight rotors he put on his car.Saying that now the car takes way better corners insted of wanting to drive off the track. He said steering feel has improved dramatically and it's easyier to him to drive the car.

You can test that out just with light weight wheels alone. I notice a big difference.

Nice rotors btw, do you know how much less they weigh over stock?

I haven't noticed any difference taking corners, just improved braking performance. I've never heard of brakes making the car handle better

Any unsprung weight that is removed is a good thing, especially when it is rotational mass. If they are lighter then OEM, there is probably a difference, but most likely not noticeable.

Dude, this is one of the most absurd things I have heard in a while. No offense intended. This sort of speculation is like pretty horrible for lurkers who are trying to learn to read.

Anyway, What I usually tell people about the weight savings and the performance gain is really along the lines of being in line with a goal. Basically, if the goal is more performance, then the lightest, strongest, most efficient rotors are going to help get you there. Maybe you won't notice a specific handling or acceleration improvement with just this part (they do save quite a bit of weight BTW, about 5 lbs a corner!) your car will inevitably perform better than the next one if you are making all your mods with this mentality in place.
