Here in GA there is a spot north of the city that always has people racing. There have been a number of hit and runs and deadly accidents in the last year. The police are coming down really hard on everyone. My buddy that drives an NSX has gotten two tickets up there in two weeks. One for not using a blinker and the other for changing lanes too much.

They arrest spectators too? What would the charge be? Improper use of contact lenses?

lol. I think the charge was trespassing but I'm not sure. They got orders to arrive in court, only 4 got taken to jail and got released the next day. They impounded alot of cars though. Oh well.

You're implying that street raceing is OK. It's stupid!!! And only a couple dead is "probably still too high"?

What if its on a public road? People should watch in sweats... get caught watching, and try to run, say you were out for a late night run.

I like the fact the article mentions...

NO weapons
NO alcohol
NO drugs

Some of the kids stopped were smart in their replies. "Open a drag strip and we won't have to do it on the streets" Although people will still race on the streets cuz its hard as hell to race against a particular car when you do go to the track because its so damn crowded.

What they need to do is start coordinating more with the 2 way radio's. Get some spotters setup on a perimeter and alert everyone if a sting operation is about to move in.

I'm going to have to find some statistics that prove more teenagers die every year picking up groceries for their mom than from drag racing.

Most of the spots I've seen are in the industrial parks that are completely empty of people and cars at night.

I can think of a lot more dangerous activities on a Friday or Sat besides organized illegal street racing.

The only thing most people know about the street races is that it's illegal. They've never been there or done that....they just believe everything the "authorities" tell them. In general, as BNut said...it's more dangerous walking to the cornerstore than it is at the races...

First off, learn some punctuation. Go back to your 11th grade english teacher and ask them - they can help.

Second, regardless of whether it's on a crowded street, or a deserted back road, it's ILLEGAL and DANGEROUS as hell. Granted, we've all broken the law before by speeding and what not, but a conscious effort and planning on gathering to commit a crime? That's serious shit, boy.

I personally hope they do it more often. Drive somewhere that has a strip if you want to do it. That's what they are THERE for.

Besides - aren't you racing your car paid for by mommy and daddy's money? Does that make you feel guilty at all?

If you want to race and don't want to get cought you gotta get the ultimate sleeper ride. Get some bent and busted up body panels and ugly interior etc but full hardcore engine with turbo etc. Oh yeah, put some groceries in your car before you go too.

Then when they bust up the joint you just roll along the street like you were coming back from the store.
Just a thought.

Are you talking about Barrett Parkway?? It has calmed down considerably there. My office is near 41 and Barrett.

I heard about Barrett...but i figured I'd get lost and end up in some redneck country with no way out. That road down in Miami is desolate as hell that they got caught on...goes down through the Everglades and crap...but I bet they were by all those Rock crushing plants, where there is no traffic at night anyway, I should have swung by when I was home in Miami for Christmas

heheh, what are you saying about my part of town? Barrett Parkway is easy from downtown, I-75N to Exit 269 and you are there.

Fortunately (or unfortunately, depends who you are) it takes some time to get into the really backwards areas now. It is weird, up in my area you can have a trailer part at one point and then just around the corner have million $$ homes. And this would be in what many would term the 'country'. But still only 20 - 30 minutes from downtown, obviously with no traffic.

The Cobb County Police did crack down on it and patrol the area more often. I was surprised at the number of people doing this there at times. This is not an out-of-the-way area, it is hevaily crowded with shops, malls, auto dealers. Even at 2:00 AM there will be noticeable traffic.
