Raced what I thought was a stock 02 CL-S

I got played out big time. I was out on rt 37 with a bunch of people so my friend in his suburban could race this guy in his 94 trans am .. anyway this red 02 CL-S pulls into the parking lot we were hanging out at and his friend tells me oh he's just got a K&N drop in filter and thats it. he says he'll probably want to race you. so I figured what the hell .. hour or two later I catch a light with him thinkin it'll be just about even and I might take him because of my AEM. Well I got my ass handed to me by like 2 car lengths. Guess his buddy forgot to tell me that ALL he had was a K&N drop in filter .. and a 50 shot. stock he said he ran 15.0 and spraying he said 14.2.

he took me for a ride to show me the difference and I couldn't believe it. ever since I've been thinking about installing nitrous. my question to you guys is my car's only 6 months old, about 9K miles .. I'm worried about the tranny and engine. Do you think a 50 shot would really ruin anything if I use it conservatively?

yeah the kid in the 94 LT1 trans am was too scared to race my friend in the 3\4 ton Suburban because he was afraid of losing... funny right? that trans am would've went down tho. heres the specs on the suburban:
7.4L 454 rebuilt from block up
lower compression 7.9:1 pistons
crane supercharger cam
machined the stock heads
Whipple supercharger with smaller pulley to make 8 PSI
MSD ignition with boost timing knob
Roller rockers
Doug Thorley headers with true dual 3in exhaust
Perfect Power stand alone air\fuel and engine control computer
4.10 gears (came stock)
dyno tuned
and next week hes drilling in an auxilary fuel injector to dump in more fuel when he goes into boost. after he re-tunes this it should be good for another 60-75 RWHP.
weight: between 7000 and 7500lbs
dyno: 349RWHP\529RWTQ
best time 14.78@92MPH
est. crank before his 30% drivetrain loss with 4x4:500HP\739TQ
his cardomain site

oh by the way the 2nd pic on the first page of his cardomain site with the truck lifting the front wheels off the ground .. thats not photoshopped I was the one sitting in the passenger seat when he did it.

I would never race an SUV either. Not becasue I'd loose, but because most of them are so unstable at high speeds. I'd never race in one either. Guess that's me though That is a sick truck though!

As said in another thread "spraying is cheating" I think so so anyway.

Yeah I know what you mean. My Explorer never felt stable, racing or not .. surprisingly though, the suburban is so long and wide and heavy it feels incredibly stable. especially since it sits on sticky 305\45\R22 (33in by 12in) rubber.

His peak tourque is at like 2200RPM, its ridiculous how fast he takes off. When I race him from a light he has like a car length or more on me right off the launch, eventually by the time I hit 70 I pull nose to nose with him but hes hard to catch. you don't expect something that big to move that fast

Don't get the NOS unles you have alot of self control. If you can use self control then get it, if you think its worth it. The ugy only took you by 2 carlengths, thats not really an ass whooping. I would think headers and exhaust would make that an even race.

P.S. I've been down 37 numerous times looking for people to play with but never have any luck.

are you serious? Saturday nights are usually good out on 37. Check by the white castle, the small wawa, or bob kislins. Monday nights have become the new night though because cops don't know about it .. usually even the old guys in their muscle cars come out to race on Dover Road.

How odd... I rented one for three weeks while on a business trip to Philadelphia a while back and I came away with the same impression. This thing scared me on the highway. I was afraid to go much more than 7-8mph over the limit. I will say that when we got a light dusting of snow, it didn't slip once (and this was a 2WD model). Guess that weight makes a difference.

Highway riding was always a gamble with my life .. but SNOW, I loved it in the snow. I'll have to say that was one of the best things I could've ever taken in the snow. And having it lifted 2in on 32in by 10.5in Nitto TerraGrappler's made it even more fun plowing through snow mounds in 4x4. it climbed through all sorts of shit... that truck was a beast.
