Yep, it's for real. One of the auto. mags on Speed Channel did a report on it. Several people have died trying to win it!

that looks awesome, id consider doing it if i lived anywhere near there, id set a speed about 120....that sounds like a fair average speed for the CL-S...maybe 125....as long as the road isnt too windy..oh, and i sure wouldnt wanna do it with stock tires....or without sways and springs

From what I saw on Speed Channel the road starts out straight (for top speed), but it becomes very windy! You don't have to worry about anyone coming at you in the other lane, but if you miss a corner at the speed they're running there is nothing but large rocks to stop you!

Say 100 is good enough for CLS... It is not a racer nor a 50/50 RWD!

yeah, if its pretty a pretty windy course, even with springs, sways, wide sticky tires, strut tower bar....100 would probably be a good average as around some turns youd have to really slow down with a CL-S...but the straightaways would be awesome, take it up to 140 easily...it would be hella fun in a car that could handle that type of turning without a problem at higher speeds!!

I'd be more concerned about overheating at those sustained high speeds.

This race sounds insane & fun in a Cannonball Run kinda way.

Yeah, a lot of the cars that enter the Silver State Classic end up not completing the race because of overheated engines.

About 10 years ago, it seemed every damn Pantera that tried ended up overheated.

A friend of mine did the SSC in a supercharged 5.0L Mustang. He said it was a blast.

I remember seeing this race a couple of years ago on TNN or one of those shows.... those guys are crazy... and when you crash, you're car is pretty much done. They did show some wrecks, only one or two, and no one was hurt, but I can imagine the feeling whipping through there. Looks pretty insane.....

It is for REAL!! It is an awesome race!!!! The Nevada State Troopers LOVE it too!!!! Why you ask??? Because the whole week before the race, they just sit on the hiway with their radar guns and give out tickets to all the drivers that are "testing" their cars and trying to memorize the course!!! They give out a TON of tickets!!!!!

I think a Skyline has the course record! Can't remember for sure.

I remember one year when a dentist was driving his Ferrari w/his wife as the co-pilot. They crashed at about 200 mph and the wife was ejected from the car and died. If I remember correctly, the guy lived, but he was definitely fubar.
