A race against a V6 Camaro... pathetic...

I was coming home after the A-CL meet earlier today, and while northbound on Telegraph, I saw this Sunset Orange Metallic Camaro at the stoplight. I am a huge fan of LS1/LS2/LS6, so I took a closer look to see if it were one. Nope. Just a 3800 V6. It looked good, though, except for the busted front end. I pulled up next to him at the light, and I had my music blasting. I had absolutely no intention of racing him, but I heard him revving it up, and next thing I knew, he dumped the clutch and took off on green with his wheels bouncing up and down. Shittiest RWD launch I had ever seen in my life.

So I floored the car and gave chase. Caught up pretty quick, but we both slowed down for traffic up ahead. We just played around for a bit, then we got on Square Lake Road, and I got next to him. He yells at me, "NOT HERE!"

Uh, Ok. Whatever, dude. So I just tucked in behind him and followed him down the road for about half a mile. I knew exactly where he wanted to race. Upon passing Woodward Avenue, he slowed down, and I got next to him. We were going about 45-50 mph, and I was spinning at about 5000 RPM in second gear, all ready for the race.

He stuck his left hand out the window, and counted down with his fingers. 3, 2, 1, GO! I gave him a split-second head-start, since he did the countdown. Then I mashed the pedal.

It was over in a matter of seconds. By the time I hit 3rd, I was already about 3 carlengths ahead of him, and the gap only got bigger as I hit VTEC in 3rd and kept going. It was comedic. I took the Opdyke exit, and gave him a thumbs-up on my way out. I didn't see any from him. Whatever.

Good point. I was actually listening to for any BOV or supercharger whine sound. But I heard none, so I knew I was going to win for sure.

But one of the guys in the crew has a 3400 V6 (not the best engine, but it works, I guess) Camaro and he's got some light mods on it -- exhaust, intake, C5 wheels, etc, etc. He's bolting up a supercharger to it soon. It's gonna be pretty quick, but not as fast as a supercharged LS1, of course.

I have a 92 RS camaro and I can tell that our CL-S are just far more superior in power.

Just because you can doesn't mean it makes sense. If you are looking for a midrange punch to race from I suggest you try it at 50MPH in 2nd gear first. You still have some gear left before you have to shift to 3rd. I think that 60MPH is too high and it's not worth it.

60 is a bad spot for an auto CL-S.

It's a bad spot even w/ my blower. Sometimes I punch it around 35mph in 2nd and just feel like a dawg until VTEC 'cuz it doesn't downshift. Of course, my dawg might be different than another's dawg

I dont get why you call him pathetic for wanting to race you. He wasnt an ass about it. he just want to see how his car measure up to yours, well atleast that is what I got out of it. You bite on his invitation to so doesnt that make you kind pathetic too. Not trying to start shit but just because you beat his car, knowing he is slower, you call this a comedic episode? Sorry dont get it but once again not trying to start shit just dont get the logic. Flame me all you want jsut my 2 cent

The race was pathetic. And the fact that I basically ran away from him when he was acting pretty cocky about his F-body was comedic.

He was driving like an ass. I put him in his place. Obviously he thought my family sedan had nothing on him. He bit on the wrong sedan that day.

I never made personal insults against the guy, except the fact that he was cocky.

What year Camaro? Even in my old little Tiburon (not the new ones, the older ones) MAYBE 170 @ the crank with i/h/e, I knocked the doors of a V6 mustang.. an older one.. maybe a 96-97? I'm sure a CL-S would tear apart those V6's..

Sounds to me you raced a 3400 V-6 Camaro. The 3800 with a 5 speed and the perfect launch you said he had would have gave you a good run off the line. The rollin start would have had the same results as you said minus 1 to 1.5 car lengths if the guy down shifted right. Good race!

a V6 accord can usually take a stock V6 camaro so it should be no suprise when a CL-S takes them.....

a stock V6 camaro is in the mid 7's to 60 and the LX V6 accords are low to mid 7's (depends upon year)

Auto CL-S can get into the low 6's and the manuals get get into the high 5's
