Quick S2000 Run
Quick S2000 Run
I was heading out this morning and pulled up behind and S2000 at a red light. The light turned green and he pulled away at a quick, but not full out pace. So I got in the right lane and started to go around when he got on it harder. I shifted to 2nd and floored it and went by him at a decent pace. Then shifted to 3rd and started barely pulling when we both let up at about 80.
I assume that he had already shifted to 2nd when I started going around and was low in the revs. There would be no other explanation (other than not really trying but then why take it up to 80) for me pulling on him unless he wasn't high in the revs as they need to be. Additionally, as I started passing him and pulling ahead, as the speed climbed the rate I was pulling away start dropping indicating he was getting into his power.
I would have loved hitting the I575 on-ramp with him to see what an all out pull would have netted. I would guess he is stock as most people around here would never begin touching their cars (my neighbors look at me weird when I am grinding down metal in the driveway at night; sparks flying, etc.). With my modded 6-Speed I would think I have a chance in nearly matching the acceleration of a stock S2000.
But I would never begin to start if there are twists in the road!!!

They don't trap as high as I would expect though. Stock for stock, yes. But a modded 6-Speed has nearly the same LBS/WHP value but with more torque. It then comes down to who can get on it sooner and the S2000 had been down shift.
Well, I love the new cl 6 speed and it is very very fast. But I just got my s2000 and that things hauls. You may be right but if the s2000 had downshifted into 2nd at about 6 grand, I don't think you would have been very close . After V-TEC they really start to pull hard. But again, the CL-S 6 speed is fast, just a little too heavy.
there was an s2000 with a "j-something" exhaust and some other things on it, up at the dragon a couple of weeks ago. on the highway we were in a big pack of cars and when he got on it, i was able to pull on him pretty convincingly. even to the point where i pulled in to the other lane to go by him. now i dont know if he was in his powerband as far as the right gear and all, but i do know that his car was screaming . very sweet car, gunmetal wheels and the such. and the exhaust not was intoxicating. i would have loved to line up with him and see what was what from a dig.........

Ah yes.. the S2000
Many times the S2000 comes up in race stories at all sports car forums. I do not believe that the S2000 you raced was ready to jump on it, and was probably in too high of a gear to really start something. This holds true to the fact that many S2000 owners simply do not know how to drive their car well. I'm sure KC CL would agree with me on that. I've had my S2000 for 2 years now, and I have come across many owners that simply don't realize the potential of their cars. But scalbert brings a good point.. twisties. I love my car's handling. The S2000, with its low amount of torque just simply wasn't made for drag racing. While I am a big fan of the CL Type S 6 Speed, I'd still think it would be hard for a modded CL to match a well driven S2000. But, I really am not quite sure of the capabilities of the CL-S.
Actually, when looking at the numbers it appears that a modded 6-Speed CL is right with the S2000 in Lbs/HP numbers, if not better. I was surprised to see that the S2000 comes in just over 2800 lbs, I assumed it was closer to 2500 - 2600 Lbs. The 6-Speed CL-S comes in over 3400 Lbs. I'll use the rounded down numbers.
Most stock S2000 dynos show between 190 - 200 WHP but I'll use the high nimber for this example. A broken in 6-Speed CL with I/H/P should net about 250 WHP, so:
S2000 = 2800 / 200 = 14.00 Lbs/HP
CL-S = 3400 / 250 = 13.6 Lbs/HP
So the CL-S has a better ratio. Add to this about the same gearing and the 6-Speed CL's higher ratio of torque, I am not suprised about being able to pull on him.
But, as I stated before, I am sure he was not up in the revs as I should not have pulled that well on him.

Interesting
Wow, I didn't know that the CL-S was that quick. Very nice. Sounds about on par with the S2000. High 13's is possible with a good launch. Makes me wonder what the new Accord 6-speed modded will be capable of, since they're estimating high 5 second 0-60 times, which I believe is faster than a stock CL-S 6 speed.

I think C&D said the 6 spd does 0-60 in 5.9 (with the shitty tires).
I was in Newark, NJ a while back when I raced a brotha in a yellow S2k back before I had my 200lb system in
. I was surprised when he launched at the light and we were even till 80 and then he started pulling. Mind you I had a non modded CL-S back then and it's an automatic... Thought it was a fluke.

sorry I just find it hard ot believe that you beat one. Again I love the CL-S expecially the 6 spd but I love my s2000 more. They may not have much torque but they make up with tht once you hit about 6200 rpm.
That is fine, it makes no difference to me if someone beleives it or not. I never post BS here though...
As stated, he was probably trying to pull in 2nd from 20 MPH which is not going to happen in that car. Additionally, based on the numbers there is no reason a modded CL-S 6-Speed couldn't hang if not pull on a stock S2000. A greater and as broad torque curve ratio to weight ratio along with similar gearing should equal a quicker car.

I would also suspect that the CD is similar...
