Quick Questions - New To The CL-S
I just bought a 2001 CL Type S and had a couple of quick questions. I'm new to the car and this forum, so bear with me if I ask questions that have been/always are asked.
1) Are there any immediate (by myself) modifications I can do to the car in terms of performance? If not, what are some cheaper mods I can do to increase performance? The service guy at the dealership said the car is severly undertuned, so I was hoping there were things that could be done to it as is without having to buy a lot of other stuff.
2) Is there a way to adjust it so the top speed isn't limited to 147 mph?
3) I read the FAQ, but didn't see dealers that sell replacements for the wood trim, can someone recommend some?
Thanks in advance for your help.

i dont think anyone has gotten any extra power out of the motor of a CL-S without spending money on some kind of new part or component. the only thing you can really do to quicken it without spending money is to lighten her up, take out the spare tire and everything else in the trunk.
if you want to add quick power, the best way BY FAR is to get a set of headers, check out the thread for the Stone Headers Group Buy. they will give you 20-30 wheel-HP for a VERY reasonable price. other power mods you may consider would be some form of Cold Air Intake, currently there are 3 high quality kits available, all priced between 200 and 250.
AEM
Injen
Comptech Icebox
a CAI kit will give around 10 wheel-HP but its not something you can typically "feel"....with the headers ,you can DEFINATELY feel the gains.
i dont beleive (someone will correct me if im wrong) that anyone has removed the speed limiter....why would you want to go that fast anyhow??? speaking from experience, the car begins to get unstable after about 130-135 mph with stock tires, not sure about how it acts at those speeds with Z rated tires though.
there is no simple replacement for the wood trim, its part of the door panel and cant be purchased individually. you can take it all apart and paint it yourself, people have done it before successfully and it looks good, otherwise, you could spend money on the 2003 door panels, for the aluminum look, but its expensive, for sure.

Thanks for the input.
My dealer wants $367 for installation of the Comptech Icebox ($269 for part itself) and $1314 for installation of the Comptech Headers ($1119 for the headers). Plus having them install the parts doesn't void my warranty.
Do you think this is about right, or should I shop around some more?

Well, I have a bunch of stuff you may be looking for.. just click the link in my signature . We have headers, intakes, wood trim, etc. Being a long time member of the board we started the site to support the members of the forum to offer them the mods they wanted at good prices.
BTW, a good source of info would be our Tuner Section. It's not 100% complete... but should provide you with all of the information you're looking for!!
