Questioning if the CL-S should get the boot (comparo to 08 Accord)

Hopefully I’m not the only one here...I love my CL-S but thoughts have crossed my mind of maybe trading in the CL-S for something still practicle but maybe a little newer. My first thought was the new Accord I researched a little and this is some of the info I found. I thought this was kinda of a good comparo list of the 01 CL-S and the 08 Accord Coupe /Sedan. On paper they are not that different. Esp. with emphasis on mpg (which the 08 accord has cylinder deactivation), 0-60 & quarter mile (even though MT estimated it’s still close) I know it’s mag racing at its best but just wanted to share a side by side comparison on paper. Both this info was taken from MT. Just my but for the money I'm saving, I'm damn happy with 01 CL-S and my pocket is too. After looking at what is out there I can’t justify spending that much money for a car that is pretty much the same thing (even though the new accords might be slightly faster..but who cares if I wanted a fast car I would have bought a rwd sports car)..Especially since my car is paid off and it's in perfect condition. Looks like I'll be keeping the CL-S until it doesn't run anymore... End Rant
Hope you all enjoy

If my CLS ever died I'd pickup the Accord 6mt in a heartbeat.
If I had an 01 CLS I would also buy the Accord because you can get it in a 6mt.

If you plan on going for a 8th gen 6spd then go for it, otherwise get something else, unless you more interested in aesthetics.

the GF just picked up a blk/blk nav EX-L coupe a couple weeks ago. i'll see if i can get some pics today if we washed it.

i think some of that info you posted about the accord might be wrong. if im not mistaken i think hers has 18 inch wheels.

seating in the CL is also rated at 4.

thats just what caught my eye in skimming the info.

hope these new accords dont have the same brake issues the CL's have been plauged with.

The Accord coupe 6mt is pretty much the replacement for the CLS in the Honda/Acura lineup, so it makes sense that alot of people here would like it...

I always thought of the 7th Gen Accord as the 3rd Gen CL, so I guess an 08 accord would be a 4th gen CL

Hmmm... maybe H/A should just let honda sell the sedan, and market the coupe as an acura...

The V6 Accord Coupe comes with 235/45/R18s.... you have the tire specs for the 4 cyl.

And I'm betting the manual will do low 14s in the 1/4 mile no prob.

But yeah ... its still not much of an upgrade. I've also heard from people that have made the switch that they found the build quality a little better in the CL - less sqeaks and rattles.

Plus I'd rather own an Acura than a Honda - I don't care if that's petty

To all yea I noticed some of Motor Trends info was a little off. This info was from a 08 Accord Sedan. I probably should have grabbed the Coupe info but couldn't find it on MT at least. This was just suppose to be a general comparo so don't read into it too much .
Yea I drove my neighbors 08 sedan (V6) today and damn its a nice car...a bit too soft of a ride for me (I have tanabe suspension on my 01 Cl-s) and d*mn thats a huge car. It felt so much bigger and taller than my car (see specs below) but its a damn powerful fwd car. I could def. feel more the more tq in her car. I didn't get to take it on the open road so I am not too sure how much more powerful it is on the open road. Maybe some time in the future. But I too have heard of the quality in the Acura's is slightly better. Once again I was impressed by the Accord today...but not enough to trade in just yet. I still feel my Cl-s is just as good all around.

Hey, I think you should get the Accord. Also, don't trade in your CL, give it as a gift to me, that way I can have a coupe to go with my sedan haha. Seriously though, the CL is a sporty looking car, while to me the new Accord does not. Now the 03-05 Accord coupe is gorgeous, I'd take that any day over the CL-S.

yeaa i noticed the similarities when the '08 accord first came out too, and im not even being biased when i say that i still feel like my CLS is better, it just is, insurance is cheaper obviously cause its older, its still in great condition, i love my HID's, its an acura, etc, and hell it still looks really good, i mean i only have like 76k miles on it, so it hasnt even started to "feel" old , ill wait at least another year or two to buy another car...i want an s2k soo bad...

Exactly what i think...why move from a cls to an accord...yea its nice but i rather stay within the luxury class...with out having to buy every option available to you...

unless your all about the speed factor of course...

By no means I am not defending anybody else to keep/sell their CL for a new Accord but this is just the way I feel and I just hope in the next couple years Acura steps up and comes out with a rwd/awd sport coupe.
I just hope they don't try uping the hp on a fwd car...kinda pointless to me. my

Being someone that has owned both an 2nd Gen CL-S and a 7th Gen AV6, I can tell you the built quality issue is Honda in general. The CL-S' dash cracked and squeaked like crazy and the rear view mirror fell off while driving every other week. The AV6's headliner squeaks and rattles over bumps and the clutch spring has a slight notch in it. Both had terrible stock rotors that warped and the stock paint is way less up to snub with most other import manufactures. But both were/are extremely reliable (minus the auto in the CL, but now I have a 6mt so it's not comparable in that sense) and both leave me totally satisfied with my drives.

And according the the mags (I know, mag #s but...) the new 6mt runs a 14.5 in the 1/4 mile, the same as the 7th Gen. Blame that one on the significant weight gain.

The Accord pretty much has every amenity that the CL-S has, yes, they are options, but the base price is lower because of the Honda badging verses Acura badging, so in the end you'll pay around the same if not a little less for the Accord (of course factoring in inflation from 2003 to 2008 since there is no 2008 CL). If you're only about nameplates then stick with Acura, but if you truly compare them on paper an Accord is just as well equipped as a CL.
