Exclamation A question that every one of you can answer!

So I've kinda be doing a lot of reflection on life. I know this isn't the site to talk about that but I have one aspect that can apply that I would like you all to shed light on.

Modifying your car! Why and how does it truely make u feel.

Ever since I got my car I wanted to mod this and that and the goal was to have every conceivable mod that I could do install myself.

The goal was to finish and have no more mods and the objective was to be happier with my car.

Well I'm there and....

Truthfully it's the opposite. I have never thought less of my car in the sense that I am never looking forward to what's coming next.

I noticed it wasn't being there that was the fun part, it was the journey getting there. A life lesson I paid 5-10 k to learn and it was well worth it.

Who would have thought a stupid car would teach me so much about life in general.

What do you feel ?

I wouldn't call my car stupid.....but I do agree that the fun part is the research done and the installation of whatever mod I've decided on is the exciting part. I mod my car for myself and the enjoyment I get from seeing a finished product. I've never been happier with the car that I have (03 CL6). I look forward to diving into any little change I can make. Sometimes I enjoy the mods I make sometimes I don't.

I do it for the fun of it, and because most of the time its far cheaper than a monthly new car payment while allowing me to save more for the day when i do need to have one.

We all learn lessons from different experiences in life and those same experiences affect everyone in their own way. Glad you learned something whatever it may be.

I understand I think. The plans, the anticipation and mystery of what each mod is going to feel like when its done. The first drive after you modify something. If you've taken it all the way you should at least get to sit back and enjoy the moment. Be proud of your accomplishment

Well I didn't mean to affend anyone by calling The CL stupid. It's just.. Knowing what I know now I'd have rather gotten to go on a two week vacation and spend time with my friends and or family instead of on myself, by myself. But then again, I wouldn't have made this post if I did not take the route I did.

Don't get me wrong the Cl is an amazing car and the cl6 is biblical. It'd be nice if the transmission didnt have to die all the time, but death is part of life right :-)

And good god. I'm not trying to make anyone feel less for their car. I still cannot find another one I love like it! I'm just shedding light on the matter with this thread. A little self reflection

Christ I owe something pretty monumental to those 4 wheels, I have had mine for 6 years and my mom had a blue clp from 2001-2005. I feel like I can't live without the thing. Hence why I had to put another Trans in.

I'm sure our cars have all taught us a lot about ourselves, people who endeavour the forms are definitely unique ppl. And we are all here to learn.

This thread is just about what you've really learned overall from the experience

And if you all are wondering where this is all coming from. I'm reading Prometheus Rising. What an eye opener

I don't think anyone was offended from your post. If anything it gets people to reflect on what they consider important or fun for them. I'm the complete opposite in that I would rather mod my car than go on vacation. I suppose that could be because I've spent a lot of time in different places and seen different things. Although I mod my car with disposable income. I think the older I get my taste on what I consider "enjoyable" is completlyrics opposite of yours and that's what makes us all unique.

I'm confused by the section in bold. What does "done modding" mean? There's always going to be a new mod to do, custom parts to make, something to change, update, repaint etc etc. Then again I am about to be the definition of "bought a daily, now I need a new daily"

Without my CL, I never got on AZ, I never met so many of my good friends, and I never had hilarious conversations about a stupid car online. I agree that the car is stupid, but because we are. Every single one of us CL guys who stick to our guns and don't sell it and get something else are just stupid. Why do we insist on holding on to a car that will need a new transmission swap, that has a very limited aftermarket part selection, drives the wrong wheels in most peoples opinion, and is a fat pig (minus you Brian)? Cause we love the stupid thing.

I agree. This thread has made me think about the small amount mods and updates I have done to mine. I have too much money into the car by most people's standards. But everything I spent has been analyzed - some is for fun, some is for a need, and others to extend its life. There are seasons where I have more time and money to spend on it and others where those are going elsewhere. My CL is not my obsession nor do I look for it to make me happy. It was great to add headers but not so great when the front axle broke while shifting into 2nd. That's the way it goes, it will let me down. It was also great having just as much fun at a track day as everyone else even though I had the least valuable (and perhaps the only FWD) car there out of 100 cars.

For me, it is less about the CL and more about the overall hobby. In a given year I am going to allocate about the same amount of money to cars, whether it is saving for the next one, maintenance, or mods.

If it ain't broke make it better.
or
If it ain't broke, it will be sooner or later.
Playing with cars has been fun since I was a kid. I just don't have to push them and make vroom vroom noises now.
