Question for brake experts

1. Do you wear out brakes and rotors simply by engaging the parking brakes a) flat surface and b) uphill/downhill?

2. And applying brakes at a stop?

Only if you forget to disengage the parking brake before driving the vehicle.

The only thing you mention that could be potentially harmful is holding the brake at a stop after they have been heated up by a long stop. The portion of the rotor that is under the brake pads will cool at a different rate than the rest of the rotor and they can warp. If I know I have heated my brakes I try to come to a stop as gradually as possible and avoid having to hold the brakes on without the wheels moving for very long.
