Question about rain driving for 6spd

Is it just me or does the LSD front end make this car scary in the rain. I have good tires so I know its not it. The car just id not as stable as the TL S auto in the rain.

Well if I accerlerate through a curve booth tires break loose and the front end pushs out. I would rather drive a little more carefull in the rain and have the LSD for off the line and high speed cornering in the dry weather.

Ah the blessings of FWD. Worse in the snow.

I’m confused.
My 6-Speed with LSD is so much better then my Slush-Box 2001 was.
I almost spun my Auto off the road once in the rain because I got a little too aggressive with the manual slush-shift on a corner.
You’re describing the EXACT reason it was put on the car and you’re saying it doesn’t work.

I think LSD works awesome both in rain & snow.
Sure you have to know the limits (especially with headers) but I think it’s a great improvement.

Yep, I agree. LSD works great (and no, this isn't the "guys on acid shouldn't drive thread).

You have to be more careful about driving in the rain with any car that has 260hp

My only concern is that I have to lower my launch rpm's in the rain due to increased wheelhop when the road is wet.

at Siggy's comment. I miss RWD sometimes, even in the snow

I slide all over the place in the rain. I have to be real easy on the gas at stop lights. Even when I'm going, if I'm hard on the gas the car just spins & I get zero traction untill I back off the gas. The tire & the light SSR's I have may be my problem.

For straight acceleration on wet the 6 speed is awesome, but on curves or turns it's crappier than any car I've had. Is it the stock tires that loose grip on wet curves so easy compared to other cars/tires I've had?

just out of curisoity what tires do you have? Maybe they don't have a decent water channel for the rain even though they have good dry traction?

I think some of you guys don’t know how to drive.
What do you THINK is gonna happen if you floor it around a corner?
LSD is trying to control the traction, but if you’re too aggressive SURE the car is gonna go straight instead of turn.
Do the same thing with a RWD and you’ll be facing the wrong direction mighty quick.
If you have FWD, 4WD or RWD with some kind of electronic traction control it will reduce power to control the skid of an inexperienced driver.
I can do the same thing with my right foot.

IMO, the stock tires suck. Especially suck on smooth concrete, paint strips, and fresh black top (at least what they use in my area).

The first drive home was in the dry and on well worn pavement that looked like sandpaper *and* I figured the tires were fine.

First drive on new concrete, fresh pavement, and rain scared the crap out of me. (The car was a "plough-master" and I knew the tires were crappy when I had a POS station wagon next to me on some new black top making less tire noise on a mild sweeper...)

Up the pressure to 34, 35 PSI... This is better.

I changed to 235/45-17 Toyo T1S, the car is transformed. Glue city.

IOW, dump the stock tires ASAP.

I am actually on WTR's. They handle fine. What I am trying to explain is the car is more sensitive to direction changes and has a tendency to be unpredictable compared to the TL S or my old RSX S. I am not doing high speed cornering in the rain guys.

how wide are they? TLS tires are 215's right? Maybe you are just tramlining if they are wider.

My 6 speed does fine on the twisties. I am slightly lowered on Comptech springs and also have Comptech sways. I also have 235 series tires.

It's not a go-cart or Porsche, but I have not problem with curves.

You got to know when to downshift, when to accelerate, when to lighten on the throttle, and when to brake. Knowing these and hitting them perfectly is part of the fun of driving a manual tranny.

I was just thinking about this yesterday -- I drove home and hit every one of my fun curves perfectly - perfect downshifts, decel, accel... It was wonderful.

Damn it. I am not driving through twisties in the rain. I am driving in a straight line.

Winter tires are not necessarily "swell" in the rain and are not exactly known for having stiff sidewalls.

You did mean WTR == winter (yes/no?)

Get some max-performance tires with emphasis on good wet and hydroplane properties, and I bet you are much happier...

My '01 CLS with OEM tires didn't handle as well as my 03 CLS 6sp does with PS A/Ss in the wet when VSA and TC was turned off; something I wish I had at times on my 6sp. But with VSA and TC turned on, my '01 CLS was easier to drive in the wet. But

No, I'm not even pushing it that much at all, but on wet curves most cars are passing me. This car loses grip very easily on wet curves, at least compared to my 2 Legend coupes before. I hope it's the tires. My stocks have about 6k miles on them.

You people complain too much. Why the fvck do you need to be florring it while cornering in the rain? I have driven mine in every weather situation and while it isnt as EASY to drive as my automatic taurus, if I drive like an intelligent person it is perfectly fine in every situation.

Nobody should be pushing it in rain or snow, anyways. LSD works great in dry weather....off the line and around the turns.
