Question about moving a car cross country

A friend of mine is moving to LA... Anyone have any recommendations on a good company to use to transport a car from the DC area to Los Angeles? They don't want to have the car driven so I guess it needs to go on a truck or something. Any one ever done this before? Thanks for any tips!

Auto Transport

Yeah, I had a car shipped on a transport trailer (like the ones that deliver new cars to the Car Dealerships) from Costa Mesa, CA to Omaha, NE - it was around $800 - $900 ...Don't remember exactly!

You should call a few companies out of the Yellow Pages - the prices and the lead times vary!

answer to your transport question

I'm from the Boston, MA area and flew over to Salt Lake City, UT a few monthes ago to buy my dream car. I bought a 1971 Datsun 240z. Initially I was going to drive it home (a 5 day road trip) but at the last second I decided to ship it home. The company I used was DAS. They were great. It took 2 weeks and cost me $890. Most transport companies require 15 days advance notice, but DAS only needs one day notice. I highly recommend them. They give you a tracking number so you can log onto their website to see where your car is located.

go to http://www.dasautoshippers.com/

take care and good luck

Also try Horseless Carriage. They are high but very good and ship the car enclosed. I didn't use them but opted for a carrier out by LAX in Los Angeles out of the Yellow Pages. They were very good and it was $735 from LA to NJ.
