Question about Idle on Type S

Hi all, I just got the new engine on my car, and the idle RPM seem kinda high. I was wondering around what RPM your cars are at.

my is doing 1200 when i have a cold start (over night)
and around 900 when i start the car again with in an hour of driving it.

I don't know what RPM it will be when the car warms up after a over night stay... (didnt have enough time to wait around).

I remember it used to be alot lower, like around 5 or 6 hundred RPM.

what are yours like? Am I just being paranoid?

Thanks

Chung

Mine is is around 1.1-1.2 during cold start, and when warm is 0.9.
This is absolutly normal, computer sets higher RPMs during cold start to warm up engine faster and not let it shut off.
When engine is cold, oil is very dense, and you need higher RPMs to keep it going.

IN 50-60 degree F mornings, the car will briefly sit at high idle (by the time I pull out of the garage, its at 750 RPM).

After restarts, etc it pretty much sticks to 750.

BTW -- Since the engine is new, I sure don't remember the exact idle patterns when it was getting broken in (plus, I bought the car when it was warm [late Summer])...

Typically these engines run around 750 rpm's at idle after warmup.Warmup time varies with local weather conditions. If your idle seems to run higher than that have your dealer look into this as the ngine may have a minor vacuumleak or possibly an inaccurate tachometer.Jens

There was a thread about it recently. If I remember, it cost 8 grand and wasn't covered by warranty. I don't know if his insurance covered it or he was out the dough.
