Question about HID Upgrade

I have a buddy of mine who converted his MDX to HIDs. He has some spare 6000K bulbs left over that he didn't use. He claims I could just pop them in my CL-S and thats it, I guess we have 3000K or something like that. Has anybody done this, is it really just a matter of replacing our bulbs with brighter HID bulbs? I would like something a little brighter so if its that easy, I would consider it.

Why change? Your visibility will be reduced by 15%. It may be whiter but it doen't illuminate as well as stock HIDs.

nah K is just color temp

~4300 is peak performance for HID, but 6000K looks so cool.

But can I just pop in the 6000k bulb into place where our OEM bulb goes? Is it that easy?

our car's HID"s are at around 4300K not 3000, if they were 3000, they wouldn't be as white as they are right now.

at the 6000 mark, they start to turn blue and you lose light intensity, hence the reduction of visibility. keeping your lights at stock is best for visibility.

if you want the blue look and don't care about light output, then go with the 6000K and above lights.

It should work if it's a D2R....or whichever is the non projector one.

D2S should work too with a minor mod to its base

Loss of light is minimal, but never the less it is a loss. Persoanlly I like the color...it's really nice, but to each his own.

This one actually isn't a good representation of how it is (I raised my beam a little bit)...but u get an idea of how the color looks. I need to get a better pic of this that is straight on and not an angle shot.

Thanks peiqinglong for the pics, I will get those bulbs after all, I kinda do like the color scheme now that I have an idea of what it will look like.

My friend had them in his MDX, but he said with the 6K he got too many people flashing thier brights at him, because the bulbs must have looked like brights, do you get that too??? It may have been because he has an MDX which sits higher.

I wouldn't give up the added safety of increase visibility you get with stock bulbs. It makes no sense to me to spend $$$$ to decrease your visibility. 15% more visibility at night could save your ass!!!!! Why downgrade your vehicle for a slight change in looks that no one will even notice!!
HIDs were a big reason why I bought the Acura!!!!

chatapuggy1: Well I've been highbeamed once or twice. People do think that my high beam is on, but when I get high beamed, I kindly let them know that the HIDs are not my high beam and that the PIAAs are . Yea with how high SUVs are, I can see how people keep thinking your friend has his highs on.

louisn: I agree with you. chatapuggy1, you might want to keep this in mind. When it's night time and the road is pitch black, like literally black not the grey charcoal that you commanly see...I can't see shit with my 6000k. Because of the white, it sucks right into the blackness. The 4300k will have better visibility due to the fact it's yellower. The main times I notice that 6000k are problems is in heavy rain where the roads are black or roads that are black with no illumination from the side or anything.

The 4300K bulbs are not yellow at all, anything below about 3800 start to turn yellow. Actually 4300K is as close as you can get to daylight. it's once you go to 6000K that the light is now blue which is now decreasing your visibility. 4300K is the best suited bulb for driving because it is the closest to daylight, and that's why so many cars use the 4300K bulb setup or a bulb that is around the 4300K benchmark.

For the most part they are white but under certian conditions you can still see yellowish hues, the stock set in my 01 are not showing it as much as some other CLs I see though.
