A friend of mine jus bought a 03 mustang convertible gt auto..The question is can my 6 spd cl take it? will it be close or will i whoop his ass...? Again..its a gt conv auto\

PH,

ps..he thinks there is no match as CL 6SPDs are "slow" then again..ignorance is bliss ;-)

Ur friend is stupid... Let him take his GT to the drags strip and come back with a Time slip.

I’m not an expert on this, but I think considering that it is a convertible ( HEAVY ) and Auto ( loss of HP ) it might be a pretty close race.
If you get a good launch and don’t miss a gear I think you could probably win.

Either way it will be close. Give it a shot, and let us know the outcome.

Other than the V6 model your not gonna find a slower 2003 Stang out there to race, except maybe the Cobra, stock from Detroit.

C&D just tested a GT coupe auto in a comparo. It's 1/4 mile was 15.1 @ 93. My auto can do that, so your 6 speed should take the auto vert, just don't overdo the wheel spin.

The 03 Cobra is 390 hp and 390 ft-lb of torque. I have't seen any tests yet, but I doubt it'll be slow!

HE will lose really bad. I mean bad. HE got the slowest heaviest Mustang there is in the V8.

The 6spd will kill him, the autos will take them as well.

It will be pretty close race b/c he got the low end torque vs our high end vtec.

I agree, if it was a manual GT with a hardtop. He'd be looking at the mustangs tail lights...

GT hardtop is lighter and has a more torque...

And actually the GT convertible is lighter than our boat anchor too...

Not for a 6spd CL-S.

Mustangs run mid to low 14s stock for hard tops.

With gears, intake, and exhaust they can hit 13.5-13.9 at 101-105.

It'll take a CLS. No question to it.

Lighter, more torque and RWD (better launch) ...

Coupe vs. Coupe. 6 spd vs. 6 spd Stock vs. Stock

Been to the track a bunch lately. I know what they run. Sorry to say we'll loose. Simple as that.

-- 2003 GT --
3280 lbs
260 hp at 5250 rpms
302 ft/lb at 4000 rpms

-- 2003 CLS --
3446 lbs
260 hp @ 6100 rpms
232 ft/lb @ 3500 rpms

If it loses, it won't be the car. It'll be the driver...

Man I raced one that ran a 14.5 (with a bad driver) it was 90 degrees out, and 95% humidity. Rained literally 1 hour before we ran, you could see the humidity. Should run a low 14 on a good day. Which honestly is better and faster the a 6MT CLS. As I could only run a 15.01 that day (note my mods)

LOL, the sun and the moon have to be in proper alignment for a (stock, auto) CLS to run a 14.8

Granted im not saying it's going to blow the doors off. But it certinaly had quite a bit of an edge on the CLS.

All 68 foot pounds of it...

If you run into a 03 "Mach 1", say buh-bye!

CLS with 6MT

I'm not sure on the fuel level.

The 6MT is 40-50lbs lighter than the auto I thought.

the 6spd will scare the shit out of a manual Hardtop GT.....not saying it would beat it..but it would certainly make even an excellent driver think twice about taking a CLS lightly....

Ya should be a good race, CLS behind within 1-2 car lengths.

CLS has a few disadvantages too though.
FWD
Heavier
Chitty Tires

A GT will pull on a CLS. Especially on the highway. Lots more torque to eat up Top end mabye the CLS will catchup. But that's it's only hope.

i dunno if the 03 mustangs are any different then the 02's, but i raced an 02 and beat him by a good car length up to 70. Mustangs are quick but we're about even with them, considering the fact we have luxury cars, not sports cars.

dude, this sun and moon thing might be your philosophy but no cls should run in the 15's period. practice grasshopper practice!

Hey quikcls,

Read my signature.

Guys remember what he took on it was a Vert Auto. The only time I ever see a Vert Auto is when I see daddy's girl taking out her graduation present. Come on we gotta start beating the 'real' Phoney cars, HT MT. We know that they'll be us but with headers it sould be in our favor. I just got my CT's (not on yet) so I am about to see if I am correct.
