Pushing the mpg limit + ?bad gas? = Noise from the engine?

Ok, so I was on my way from South Bend, to my hotel in Detroit ... a tad over 250 miles. I had just under half a tank of gas. I decided to see how far I would make it. Surprisingly enough, the tank empty light didnt come on till I was less than 20 miles from my hotel. Needless to say, I was totally amazed! I had squeezed 30+ mpg outta this baby!!! 90% highway ofcourse =) anyways, so I make it to my hotel, no problem .. next morning, on my way to work I fill up (premium as always).

After work, when I started my car up there was this grinding/humming type noise. Coming from the engine, sounded like it was coming from the front right (a bit above, to the right of the AC .. definately not from the AC or the stereo or anything. it was coming from under the hood). I panic, 10 seconds later the noise is gone. This happens for the next 2 days, when I start the car up .. that noise is on for about 10-15 seconds and then its gone. Well, now 3 days later, the noise is completely gone ... any idea what that might've been?

I called to schedule an appt with the dealer, and he said if the noise is gone there is not much more he can say or do ... but i can bring it in if i want. he said his best guess is that it was bad fuel?

Maybe since you got to the absolute last drops of fuel, you got some sediment that was floating on the top of the gasoline?
