I was washing my car yesterday and I noticed that every couple of minutes it would make a noise that would last for a few seconds. It sounded like the noise that the pass. side mirror makes when you put the car in reverse. The sound wasn't coming from the mirror though. I've noticed it before but ignored it because I had just turned the car off. This time, however, the car had not been driven for a couple of hours. Anyone have any idea? My guess is the fuel pump but I don't know why it would be turning on.

 

My car does this too! I don't really know what it is but my guess was that it was the fuel pump recirculating fuel. Whenever it happens my friends always ask: What the hell was that? Anyone know for sure.

 

My old '86 Buick did this too. Many other cars do too. Normal. My BMW runs the cooling fan after turning it off after hard driving.

 

Mine does the same thing too. I live in a very quite neigborhood and I hear it also as I wash my car !

 

Hey man I posted an forum about that same problem some time ago. Its ur fuel pump priming its self. Yea why would it keep priming itself even when the car is off, don't know?
But yea kinda makes a weeeerrrrrrrr sound right.
