Thanks EricL for this find. This is exactly why I've been hesitant to do the mod myself.

BTW - I forgot to mention.
On a V8 Chevy I once rebuilt I changed out the harmonic balancer for a lightweight pulley. Everything seemed fine for 4yrs . . . and note that I had this thing balanced and clarenced to the nth degree . . blue printed as they would say. About $5k back in 1980 dollars were spent on that engine so it would turn 10,000RPM and not come apart . . and it would turn 8,000 if needed and I did take it to 7,600-7,800 regularly.
then I took it apart to refresh it before putting in a bigger cam and some head work . . well guess what! My crank was ruined! The bearing must have experienced abnormal stress as they were shot. Especially the thrust bearing which probably failed fairly quick because the thrust 'plate' on the crank was being eaten away.
And note: prior to tear down . . . I noticed no unusually vibrations or response. This is what makes this like a cancer . . by time you notice something . . it's too late.
So buyer beware is all I can add . . .
Personally, I won't get one unless it has a TVD of sorts or otherwise similar function.

I keep hearing that the stock crank pulley on the CL-S has a dampener. Can someone describe the dampener or (even better) show it in a picture? I have looked at the stock pulley and it appeared solid to me. Perhaps I didn't know what to look for. Thanks!

I was looking through some old threads. I believe that mattg took a picture of it. (Any uploaded pictures from the old BBS software seem to be long gone.)
If there is rubber inside the pulley, its damping vibrations.
And, someone will probably point out that a number of people have run up a number of miles on them with ZERO problems.
Here is the excerpt from mattg:
mine was put on w/ an impact at tha acura dealer. i guarantee you that's how most mechanics will do it.
BTW, after further examination of the crank pulley, it does have a rubber layer, so it is a harmonic balancer. EricL and i are trying to find answers on this issue as we speak. hopefully we can get to the bottom of this.
my initial review, 14.32 @ 98.09.
my car loses traction between the 1-2 shift now.
it runs very smooth.
i think my mpg is going up substantially.
i don't wanna have to take the crank pulley off.
The only reason I put this up is to demonstrate that a pulley only needs a "chunk" of rubber somewhere in it or on it.
Here is the link to the two-year-old thread where a bit of this was discussed at various points:
