Project: Tail Light

aren't the bmw light lines created by the plastic having a different mold texture on the backside? tough to remold the plastic so are you thinking plastic rods to carry the red light. i've seen some headlight "halo" ring DIYs that used this method and it comes to mind for a possibility on this project.

oh ya, no I'm not gonna use the plastic from the bmw; that would be really hard and I don't think they'd be long enough. plus way too expensive for such a small project. ya new plastic rods are what I was planning on using to have the led travel the distance. then I'll replace the sockets to house a single finction light (brake light) and the LEDs will become the running lights.
can't wait to see this one progress.

I'm wondering, since the bottom half of the housing is already red, do you think I should put red LEDs in still?
well well well, I finally beat Phillip to something???
me too, but if I pull it off, it should look damn good.
None the less, I'm going to try. If it gets pulled off the end result (how its pictured in my head) should look very nice. Maybe, I'll do it on the 01s first as a test run, and hopefully get all the mistakes out of the way.

Why do you think they are Cold Cathose Fluor. Lamps? Don't you think Fluorescents would shatter? and they wouldnt be able to be molded to the shape I'd need, I don't think... what do you think Phil??

Speculation:
What do you guys think? Would that be the place to set the LED, or on the other end?
I'll see if I can do a diy, I'm not really sure of anything yet.

you can see where bmw put the LED's on theirs, near the 3/4 panels rather than the trunk which creates hot spots.. i would put one on either side myself to even out the light distribution.. but then again, i wouldn't put 4 lines in

I'll save you some time, do not speculate or buy any parts until you actually break apart the tails, take measurements, etc, etc.
