Problem with the O2 sensor and the oil pan contact.

I just got back from the dealer and I'm sorry to say, they were right. I had OBX headers installed about a year ago, and never really seen the undercarriage iof the car. Apparently, the O2 sensor was making slight contact with the oil pan causeing the light on the dsah like the check engine, vsa and the ! to light on and off. Has anybody else had this problem? the shop I had install the headers initially said that it looked like that from day one, and they would relocate the O2 sensor position slightly by rewelding the therads. It looks like a design flew to me, cuz if the engine and oil pan would have shifted, so woud the headers sinc ethey are bolted on.

I saw that on all of the OBX we did that the O2 sensor was always in a different spot .It never contacted the pan though in any of them .it sounds to me that the bung for the O2 sensor was simply not welded on straight .

rondog I have a question for you, does your car rev funny since you have the problem with the O2 sensor. I have this same problem with all the same lights coming now and the car seem to be revving alot higher then normal or is the tranny going bad?? I need to lift the car car and check my O2 sensor.

I did 4 sets of OBX headers and one set had the same problem. I was gonna do some quick fix for him but he didn't want to. I kept telling him to check on the O2 sensor but he was too lazy. I wonder how his car is now.

Jens you are on the money, gonna reweld and relocate the position of the bung, and yes my car's revs drop low and shudder. hopefully this will fix the problem, I'll buy another o2 sensor and it will be okay. car is running rich cuz the sensor is damage. Does it matter if the sensor is facing up or horizontal, Jens? anybody?

how could they possibly be putting these 02 sensors on different spots each time? what kind of crazy stuff are they doing there at OBX? Don't they have precise measurements to follow and stuff? I think it's time to call OBX and have them replace that downpipe man. They should own up and replace it for you if that's causing troubles.

realistically, that maybe true, but it will take forever to do all the bullshit complaining, and I need it fixed...

plus, i have pretty big plans to make my car primed. alot of custom details like bodykit, modified, custom titanD19 grille, and small things here and there, stay tuned...

Thanks for the info, I need to lift my car and look at the O2 sensor before I call my dealer about it. How far does the O2 sensor need to be away from the oil pan, so I know what to look for. If the O2 sensor does not touch anything is that good or does it need to be like 1 -2 inches away.

I would say 2 0r three inches away to clear the oil pan and heat from the oil pan. You may or may not have the same position, but when you see it, you'll know. The only way to fix the problem is tom relocate the O2 sensor position so that it isn't sticking straight up into the oil pan, just remove the bung with the threads and reweld it a few degrees to the side so it isn't directed towards the oil pan. there's plenty of room for it to go, it was just a design flaw.

I was telling Rondog yesterday that my OBX's have the 02 sensor bung on the side. When i saw his, they were in a completely different spot than on my down pipe.

Did your wire burn off or did the O2 sensor just cook to death because its 2 close 2 the oil pan? Where did you get your new O2 sensor from or did you get an after market. I looked at Autozone, they wanted $111.00 for a Bosch

the o2 sensor wire just looked a little pressed and bent, but no major damage. since I had the ecu replaced (as part of the acura letter I recieved,) I haven't had anymore lights go on and the car runs fine, no shudder. I'm just gonna wait until the lights come on again and replace with a different company O2 sensor while relocating the bung to avoid future problems.

I lifted my car tonight, The end of the O2 sensor is like 1-2" away from the Tranny and the wire does not seem to touch any thing. I had my OBX header on for like 4-5 months now with out any problems. I discounted the battery and the car still runs funny with the RPM jumping all over the place. I guess I will take it into the shop.Thanx for your help

is the O2 sensor vertical or on a slight angle. The funny thing is that i didn't attempt to fix the problem, and it went away completly when the dealer installed the new ecu as part of the tranny situation. You know, the letter you recieve when you're tranny went bad in the past.
