Where can I get info on the previous owner?

My 01 cl-s I just bought was an end of lease turn in car. The whole car has been painted and EVERY piece of glass replaced, including the sunroof. I'm trying to find out why, and I'm not having any luck.

AHFC has no records of any insurance claims reported on the car while it was a lease, so whatever happened, the owner paid for it himself.

Do I have any other avenues?

 

Have you tried carfax?

 

^^ Carfax, or depending on whether that same dealer you bought from was the same one the car went to to be serviced, AND you are in good with the service people, they may be able to hint at what may have happened, or where the car had all this done at.

 

If you will post the VIN, I'll run a carfax. I have a few more days left on my unlimited reports.

BTW hello Chopper, I still have the car, but I'm seriously considering keeping it!

 

I have already contacted both servicing dealers for service history. They both said they had no records of body-paint-glass, and both declined to give previous owner info because of privacy laws.

Carfax and Experian dont tell me anything. No accidents, thefts, etc etc. Just says the car was a lease.

 

go to your dealer, and have them run the VIN in the Acura system...I had them do that for mine and it had EVERY fucking thing that had been done to the car, and NONE of that shit was in Carfax. Try it out

 

Call the previous owner. If the car if from your state, try the DMV. If it's been shipped from another state, good luck! Carfax should tell you who registered the car, shouldn't it?

 

it may be hard to trace the owner. when i bought my last 2 cars the dealers had forms i filled out which asked if i would be willing to answer questions from potential buyers of the cars i was trading in. in each case i said yes. but....

if the cars were brokered at auction a trail back to the original owner may be impossible. the car may have changed hands through several auction houses, brokers, dealers, etc. before you actually bought it. if it was a trade-in at the dealer who sold it to you its possible. but privacy laws may make it a problem.

The car was a lease turn in at Acura of Peabody. Sold at an Acura/Honda auction in Boston. Bought by Balise Honda, which is who I bought it from.

Acura has been more helpful than anyone. Carfax and Experian say the car was a repo....Honda finance says it was not. The guy at honda had digi pics of my car right in front of him with a copy of the turn in inspection report. It was reported at turn in that the car had been completely refinished. So I know the work was done by the first owner and finding him is my ticket to info.
