1996 Honda Prelude: red, lowered, chrome wheels, huge exhaust, altezza tails, etc. rice rice rice...

This wasn't really a race, but I'll post it just for your enjoyment So I'm a few car lengths behind him, weaving in and out of traffic to catch up with him. I see the red light ahead (he's already there), so I try to slow down to come to a complete stop. The light turns green, so I'm rolling at 5 MPH, while he's revving at me (I think most ricers rev a couple of times when they're "launching" at a stop light, just to show off or whatever) -- beat him 2-3 car lengths to 60 MPH.

I have a question for all the "young" people on this board -- do you know what it means when the person flashes their high beams once at you? This guy did that -- I thought it meant he wanted to go again -- I slowed down for him, but he turned into a grocery store plaza (they always turn...heheh). I know that flashing your beams while you're behind them means that you want to race -- maybe it was a way of saying "fun race," I don't know...

2001 Ford Mustang (GT?) - white, stock???

I see this current-gen white Mustang about a block ahead of me, driving kinda crazy. He wanted to race these two guys in a 5.0. I didn't really see the whole thing, but I think they were pretty even. This was a modded 5.0 -- dropped, ugly orange paint stripes (Camaro anniversary edition identity crisis?), etc. sounded like it had engine work done to it, have no idea how much though. The 5.0 finally makes a left turn, while the Mustang is at the stoplight in front of me. No GT badge, one dinky exhaust pipe pointing down -- I think to myself, it's a 3.8L V6 Mustang. I didn't even look at the guy, didn't even try, just took off a little faster than normal (I was in the far right lane, he was in the middle lane, my lane merges into the middle lane). To my surprise, he's pulling on me! I then floor it so I can get in front of him before the lane merges -- I kept going until about 60 MPH -- at this time I'm about 3 car lengths ahead of him -- then let off and turned my hazards on. I see this guy speeding up in my rear view mirror, so I waited until he caught up. I floored it at 80 MPH, and to my surprise, he stayed one car length behind me the whole time, until 110 MPH! I finally slowed down, since 110 in a 45 isn't such a good idea, especially when the race started at a "populated officer intersection." (Yes, I know, but I felt like racing a Mustang). I guess he was trying to cut me off the whole time, because he was still going to 115 MPH and barely cut me off. I was also turning right, so I followed him. We just cruised until we hitted the next stop light. I give him that "what's up" nod, he just nods back and that that-was-fun grin. I asked him, "do you want to go again?" He goes, "Naw, you'll probably beat me, but sure." I thought this was a GT for sure, but it only had one exhaust, and it was AUTO (he was in the "pimp ride" mode the whole time). I'm sitting here revving the crap out of my car (brake-gas), while he's nervously looking at the green light on the other side of the intersection. We both gunned it to about 60 MPH, then let off because another red light was ahead of us. I won, but only by about two car lengths. We talked again at the light. He asks, "is that a V6? How many horsepower does that thing put out?" I respond, "Yeah, it's a V6, 260 horsepower. That's a V8, right?" "Naw, it's a V6, 190 or 200 horsepower I think." At this point I was really confused, so I just said "Ohhh, okayyy..." I just gave him the peace sign, he did the same, and let me go first.

I know all Mustangs' torque really kicks in at high-end speeds, but the V6(?)? I'm really confused, because I've beaten '98 GT's by the same amount. AND he kept up with that modded 5.0. 60-110MPH seemed like a movie still. I think he had a misplaced GT badge, but it was kinda dark so I couldn't see that clearly. But ONE exhaust! Sleeper? NOS? Mods? WTF does he have? Hmm...this is really sad...

But I did beat him

2000 Acura Integra Type-R -- phoenix yellow, aem cai, tanabe g power exhaust, toyo t1-s's...my brother's car

Last time I raced him :

Me (130lbs): stock, crappy launch (2k rpm), VSA on, SS, sub/amp

Bro (150lbs): one passenger (100lbs), cai, bald potenza's, launched at 3-4k rpm

Outcome: he won by about 1 1/2 car lengths.

Couple of hours ago:

Me: i/h, toyo tires, sub/amp, FULL tank of gas, (decided to race right after...not too wise), oil change was due 2 weeks ago (getting it done monday), 1k launch, radio/navi off, full auto.

Bro: i/e, toyo tires, sub/amp, 1/4 tank of gas (I found this out AFTER the race), 6k launch, radio off, said it was one of his best launches ever.

Outcome: He won by about a car length. I'm kinda disappointed. For about a month, I've been calling him out to race, to settle it fair and square, because I got my headers since then -- I was 100% sure I was gonna win -- so he finally agreed to race tonight. This was about mid-90 degrees weather. He beats me off the line (about half a car length), so I figure it's all over with. I stayed a car length behind him the whole time, and he finally cut in front of me at about 75 MPH. Race is over, he wins...

Does this sound right to any of you? He's a good driver (launches at 6k RPM at every stoplight...heheh) and I think he broke into the 5-second range 0-60. I have yet to see him race our friend's Audi TT roadster -- which I lost 3-4 car lengths off the line, stock vs. stock, then played catch up to about 80 MPH and was dead even with him. My brother lost to him by about 2 car lengths from the start, with just intake. I should get a couple of these races on video camera and post them up, since our video section is kinda dead Next race: take sub/amp out, run 1/4 tank, D1-->D2, no launch, etc. Maybe I'll stay even with him, maybe I'll even beat him

Get more mods. Exhaust, pulley,V-AFC and dont race him with full tank of gas my bro.

Those V6's aren't really that slow. The 94-95 5.0's suck ass!! The 96-98 4.6's were a little better but nothing great(except Cobra). Did he have a five speed or auto? If a 5sp, then it's not that bad. He also could have had NOS like you said or they make a supercharger for those things. I saw one in a Mustang mag and it was pushing I think approx. 400hp to the wheels! But that was with a lot of other mods done to it too.

Was definately a V6. Not sure what was up. A CL-S should pull one like an SOB on top end. Hech my truck pulls the crap outta of em on top end and it weighs 4000lb and has 3.92 gears!

If you really want a challenge on top end, find a 5-speed 2.73 geared 5.0 GT or, evne better, LX. They pul hard up there!
