prelude vs CL

what up CL heads, noob here, don't flame, i've been in the Honda world for a while now.....

I'm currently rockin my 97 Prelude auto(yes thats what I wanted) and I was just wondering how the CL-S auto ( yes thats what I want) compares power wise. Anyone else out there used to drive a prelude?

btw... I found a pimpin blue 03 cl-s w/ navi so hook me up with some info

why auto? well back in 1999 when I bought my car there were 3 Ludes in the surrouding states for sale, 2 disgusting green 5 speeds and 1 black auto, so i got the black, cuz it ooks ill. As for my new car choice, I do a lot of driving, this would be my daily driver and I kinda like the convenience of SS with no clutch. Flame all you want guys but its a good set up. All my friend sgive me crap about not having manual tranny so i've heard it all.

I have test driven an 03 TL-s and loved the power, is the CL any quicker than the tl?

CLS Auto has significantly more power and faster than an auto Prelude.

You can't compare a CLS to a prelude in the catagory of power

The Auto CLS and TLS are a similar weight, have the same engine, same tires, etc, so any differences between the two usually comes down to drivers

My buddy has a 97 lude 5speed with H22. Stock for stock, he made a 15.8 and I made a 15.0. With vtec controller, exhaust, and AEM he made a 15.1 and I made 14.8 with AEM. Now hes got a Darton sleeved block, eagle rods, JE pistons, crower cams, polished crank, Fidanza 7lb flywheel, 6 puck ACT racing clutch+pressure plate, rebuilt head, AEM adj. cam gears, and hes drivin that around til he has the money saved for a huge turbo .. I forget what kind. T76 maybe? So I'll no longer be faster lol
http://public.fotki.com/blader/prelude

As far as speed the lude has more potential I think, just because of the H22 .. but I like the CL. It still holds its own, especially with mods.

I had a G5 Prelude and LOVED it more than almost everything. It is amazing how being slightly slower than the g3 (?) Eclipse is just as angst inspiring and something like Mustang vs. Camaro.

That said..WELCOME! I had a G5 Prelude before my CLS. The CLS is faster but it really doesn't feel that (THAT!) much faster. But, that said, I have taken 'Stang GTs and things like that on the highway so in that sense it is pretty rewarding. the CLS is an amazing car....have you ever heard a "japanese" car that sound as sweet as the CLS? To a former Prelude owner...

Stock, head to head, the CLS will OWN a Prelude. There are more after market parts for the Prelude though. I am pushing (crank) 300hp but the CLS is a beast to launch.

i didn't read any of the replies but i'll say this.. my friend with an '00 Lude auto: I/H/E mods lost to my '01 CL-P but 1.5~2 car lengths in 1/8 mile run.

3 times.. all same outcome. he had better stopping though.. WAY better stopping.

the h22a is a good engine.. just that the J3x series win with the torque.

go with the TL. anything you can do to the CL's engine, you can do to the TL as well. the upside is, the TL has more body kits.

Actually, yes it is his daily driver with a 6 puck. In the break-in period it was harsh, but now that its broken in its fine. It wasn't as bad as everyone was saying it was going to be. I personally drove it once .. I have always driven auto's since I started driving and was still able to drive it without fault.

I love the positive engagements with each shift.

you said exactly what I would have said on this subjuct. I have a 6 puck in my Audi with a 12 lb flywheel. Both parts are made by SPEC clutches. When I first drove the car from the shop I immediately though I made the wrong move. The first couple hundred miles were pretty bad. I'm a few thousand miles into this setup now and I love it. Smooth with positive engagement. Very streetable.

I agree Ray, wish my friend had talked to someone like you when making his decision. He would've made it sooner. Everyone else was like "hope you have another car for a daily driver! Its going to be rough!"

Luckily he didnt listen. Went with the ACT 6puck and Fidanza 7lb flywheel .. great combo

Have a '94 Prelude (kept it for a work car), bought the '03 CL-S 6 speed 'cuz I wanted an upscale Honda product, and Prelude is out of production (previously owned a '79 Accord, '89 Prelude - Honda makes GREAT cars)

IMO, no comparison between the 'Lude and CL... CL-S is larger, smoother, more stable, faster, quieter and handles better than either of my Preludes...

See thats weird, cause I think my buddies 97 lude handled WAY BETTER stock than my CLS did stock .. and even with my sways, 235\40\18s, CT springs and tokico shocks hes still not that far behind in corners.

And ever get a ride in an early Lude with 4 wheel steering!?!?
W O W.

But I agree its larger, smoother, faster, and quieter.

I love my Ground Control/Tokico set up on my Lude. Not too stiff, not to soft, and never bouncy. but i promised myself I would keep my next car close to stock.. hmmm don't know about that

I just had sold my 98 Prelude SH only mods were eibach springs w/ front camber and a short ram intake w/17" niche Shocks. My 03' CL-S is much faster around town but on the freeway my prelude kicked A$$!!!! My CL (auto) mods are Header short ram intake C/T springs and 18" Enkei LS/1. The CL is much more comfortable. In 4th and 5th gear my lude would just take off and you were doing 140+ in no time. The CL is a bit sluggish in 4th gear......You don't even need 5th because the limiter kicks in at 148mph around 6250 RPM's.
I would suggest the Prelude as a race car and best handling car out (SH = super handling) and the CL as daily driver and Fast around town, w/ comfort.

Gearing in the 5spd ludes is ridiculous. My friend's revs at bout 4K at like 80. my CLS in 5th (auto) is at like 2300

Go with the CL. Sleeker and retains more of its value. Not to mention its a PIMP ride
