Preference Question: Bike or Mods

Ok guys, I've never owned a bike before and I have the ability to pick up a nice starter bike at a good price and good mileage (a Katana 600) with a matte black paint job which I love. So my question is, do I get this bike:

Or, do I do a series of mods to my car for the summer as follows: 20% tinted windows, tinted tail lights, XS Power headers (if I can find a set), and a complete ding/scratch removal/detail.

It's one or the other. I'd save some money doing the latter, but if I do the latter, I don't have a fun summer cruising vehicle which is what I've really been looking for. Vote and let me know your opinions, all comments will be greatly appreciated

I voted for mods. cost less and your not going to have to pay registration fees and insurance.

The money really isn't a big issue, a few hundred (even a thousand) won't make or break my decision, it's more based on preference as to which you'd rather have, a car that is more highly modded or a fun vehicle to take out on nice days for a cruise

No reason the CL can't be a great summer ride. You'll be greatfull it has AC come July & Aug.

But if you say $ isn't the issue then get the bike & the mods. The mods shouldn't be more then $700.

I'm not a crotch rocket fan in the least bit but I love motorcycles. I had a Honda Nighthawk 550 when I was a kid and loved every second of it. I'd keep the CL-S stock and buy a Harley Davidson Night train. I've never heard of anybody sweating to death on a motorcycle and you can sure as hell meet your hunger for speed on a sportbike.

dont get a katana. IMO they suck. I think its a waste of money on a katana when you can get a CBR or GSXR. I had a old 94 CBR600F2 that walked newer 750's. I would of kept it but financial issues arose.

Go for the mods. I had the same decision to make about six months ago. I found a sick low milage 97 Ninja and was sooooo close to jumping on it, but in the end I'm happy I didn't get it because I see too many bike accidents in my area.

I would say go for the bike, but the katana is a bad choice, very heavy for a newbie, and slow too. Get something either more newbie-friendly, or much lighter.

id still do mods, car is better than bike

I said mods as well because it's a Kan-a-tuna...

Where I am, you can only ride a bike for a certain portion of the year.
I love my '06 GSXR 750... I can hit 150 mph in fourth gear with 2k rpms left and two more gears, and that is with only a 750!

:hint: Go 150 mph with no helmet on and sit up-right and see how that feels!!! Your cheeks fluter like a trash bag hanging out your window.

No matter how many mods you put on your CL, without bypassing the damn computer some how, you wont see 150.

Get a bike. Get a Honda CBR f4i 600, Yamaha R6 or Suzuki GSXR 600. Any 600 that isnt a katana.

I think I may go this route. I want the bike and all, and as everyone is saying a Katana isn't the best, but I really don't want to spend more than a specific amount and any bike that is better is just too fast for my taste or too much money.

A lot of mods would be nice to add, especially if I can throw them on beginning of the summer, including:

-Tinted windows/tails
-New, smaller tips (to replace the chipped Neuspeed tips)
-Dent/scratch removal + detail
-Headers

I guess that'd satisfy my need for modding. I just don't want to get bored with this car too quickly.

I voted bike, but I hate Ka-Tuna's. I had an '02 Liquid Silver Yamaha R1 for my first bike, and I did just fine on it. I shoulda voted for mods. I'd say get a Honda 600RR over a Katuna.

Smart move. Here, read this thread, it'll make you feel better about your decision in not getting a Katana and just modding your CL.

I would have to go with the adding modifications to the car. I have a 2002 Katana 600 of my own, and despite what the majority consensus is I think it is a great bike for the money. Easy to maintain fun to ride, and it's comfortable. As a new rider... I strongly advise it. Of course, you need to have time to enjoy it once you have it.

I never understand these types of threads. Why cant you figure this out on your own? Do what you want!!! How are 50k members going to help you out in this type of situation? Sorry to sound like a dick, but these threads just boggle my mind as to why people cant figure shit out on their own about accessories, let alone daily life situations.

Not nearly as boggling as to why you're so upset over it.

Answer to your mind boggling question is quite simple, bud. I'm not sure as to which choice I want to make, I'd be equally as happy with either choice. The reason I ask people here is because some may have experience with the bike/bikes in general, or have decided to do specific mods which has made their car more enjoyable to drive. This thread serves as proof to people's knowledge on the Katana 600 compared to Acura CL-S modifications, as many have already offered legitimate feedback (thank you to those who have).

Have you never asked someone's opinion on something? Clearly, you never asked your parents about what they think about a certain college, or a certain vehicle you were going to buy, or maybe even about where you wanted to go to dinner. No, you must have done it all on your own since day one.

Don't get so mind-boggled when people ask OPINIONS. It's not like I'm sitting here asking people to wipe my ass and make my life decisions for me, I'm simply wondering what other people think and what they'd choose to do.

Dude, realize what you're asking to the community before you come barking at me. This is like that other thread some dude posted: "Should I buy the black CLS or the Blue one?" WELL WHY DONT YOU BUY WHAT YOU LIKE? Why do you need to ask everyone what they think? to help make your decision? You cant make that judgement on your own?

I dont know, maybe I'm just different. I pride myself in making my own decisions in life without much help, especially from a car board and I do pretty good for myself.

I do make my own decisions and I'm proud of the decisions I make for myself, but the fact that I've never ridden a bike before and don't have friends who do, I need a source of consultation. Sure a bike forum would be easier, but I don't feel like signing up for them when I could just ask some people here who may have experience from a bike and a CL-S.

Sometimes you like to just hear opinions from other people before making your own choice. So simply put, I wasn't sure about a bike, so I asked. I'm not asking what mods to do, I'm not saying that whatever these people say is going to make or break any decision. I'm simply asking for personal opinions because I like to hear what people have to say anyway.

Just saying, if you'd never even sat on a bike before, you'd make the decision without any consultation? To be honest, when making any sort of purchase over $1,000 I want to make sure I'm making the right choice. I'd prefer not to gamble with something that may not be a good choice monetarily.

I would know that I wanted a bike, because it's what I like
or
I would know that I want to mod my car over buying a bike because that is what I liked.

I wouldnt need to ask my parents, my friends, or the CL community if I should buy a bike or mod my car, buy the Blue CL or the black CL, or buy these rims over those rims. Those decisions should be only based on what YOU prefer. IMO and

Fact: Both 3.2CLS and UNCTYPE-S have their own ideas on what thread topics should be about.

I am running into same issue as you.
Bike: Suzuki GSX R600/Yamaha R6 (also first starter bike)
or
Mod such as Header, Brake caliper, Rotors...

I am thinking of getting brakes and such since my pads are running low. Finance the bike.

What do you guys think?

I agree and was trying, but UNCTYPE-S loves to be ignorant with regards to what anyone else has to say, but I hope he'll have atleast some decency to just stay out of a thread that he doesn't have something to say about the topic.
