Power Steering Pulley Belt help!, Jens, Scalbert?

Guys,

I need help with the Power Steering Pulley Belt...

It is Squealing all time!

I tried this "Belt dressing" and it would fix the sound immediately. However, the belt will squeal again in a day or two.

I think I need to tighten the belt. I know how to do that, however,I do not have a gague to check the the tension of the belt.

Here are the questions:
1) What are the side effects, or potential major with over-tightening the PS belt?
2) How can you check that the PS belt is tight enough?

Thanks.

if you over tighten any belt then it could break.
I think it's just something you can tweak with. When I had my supercharger on my civic I just tightened it in small increments until there was no squeal. I dind't have a gauge either.

It's tight enough when it stops squealing.

There are two nuts holding the P/S pump and one nut (from the top) that holds controls the vertical motion (hence tension). Looses the bracket nuts and then tighten the tension nut.. it should stop squealing after that!

Is that belt the proper width, depth in the sheave or pulley? Maybe there's not enough surface contact on the pulley, or its not seating properly. In comparison, I don't have any squels on my oem stuff.

This is Gates Belt for Unorthodox Racing Ultra SS pulleys kit. It is the one recommended by UR.

This afernoon, I tightened the belt to the max like 2-3 turns more. The adjusting screw get real tight. So, I stoped. The belt is definitely tighter but not super tight. I still had squeals (or let us say whispering noise at idle) after I did the adjustment.
I belive this after market belt is a bit long and the adjusting scew can tighten it enough. This is my best guess.

Anyone with UR pulleys and Gates belt has this same problem?

BTW, I did apply the "belt dressing" and the squealing sound went away again.

Nashua.

I like to start with the basics when troubleshooting. That's why I suggested checking the belt size. If the size is right on, I'd suspect that maybe the belt is glazed? I know it sounds crazy. Jens and Scalbert got any tips?
