Power Seat question/problem
Power Seat question/problem (updated)
Now that, for many of us, the weather has gotten bone-chilling cold, has anyone had a problem with the power seats? Specifically, if you flip the lever on the side to slide the seat forward for rear-seat access, does it ever not slide forward?
This is something that's happened twice in the last couple of weeks. I'll flip the lever and the seatback flips forward but the seat itself does not slide. I've even pushed the seatback forward to make sure the switch was engaging, but nothing. Even after driving for ~30 minutes and getting the car all toasty on the inside, it still did not track forward. Another 15 minutes of driving with the heat on and nothing.
The seat still moved using the manual controls on the side, and after that, the seat seemed to work normally (flip lever, seat slides forward).
I'm 90% sure this has something to do with the cold. Anyone else see this? I'm about to go in for my 7,500 mile service, so it would be a good time to have them check this out if it's a real problem.

I've noticed my seats seem to stick a little once in awhile (never noticed if it was on cold days). Just give the seat back a little nudge so that it goes all the way forward and it seems to fix the problem.

Thanks, all. I'll just have to keep an eye on it, I guess.
It happens to the seat on my passenger side from time to time. Rather annoying, but it has nothing to do with the temperature. I 've had it for some time. No point to take it to the dealer because it is a sporatic thing, very difficult to diagnose the problem

Thanks for all your input, folks. I actually figured out the problem.
The button on the driver's side that detects whether or not the door is open or not has been sticking. It may be cold-related, it may not. But, I have noticed the following symptoms when it does.
- Dome light does not come on (duh)
- No "lights are on" ding-dong warning when the door is open.
- If headlights are left "on", they may not auto shut off 30 seconds after you get out.
- If headlights are left "on" and you go to get back in the car, they don't turn on when you open the door.
And of course:
- Power seats don't slide forward when you flip the lever.
If any of these things happens and I fiddle with the button, it starts working again.
Anyway, thanks again, and I thought I'd pass along the cause, in case someone else sees the same thing.
