possible tranny issue....

ok so im cruisin along in fifth (ss) and the rpms are steady at about 1500 (40 mph or so) and the rpms suddenly dip below 1000 for a second and go back to normal. when this happens the car bogs down as if i downshifted at a higher speed. this has happened a couple of times and it only seems to happen in 5th. could this be my fluid? could it be that im about to join the replaced tranny club?

luckily i have a used car warranty with Guardian and im pretty sure its covered. any ideas would help. a friend said its possible a dirty spark plug but i doubt it.

Did any lights come on?

2 of my 4 trannies the CEL lights came on a day or 2 b4 it failed the other 2 just failed so it is hard to tell. I would not be suprized if it was your tranny.
Hopefully gardian will not give u and grief replacing it , I work at a car DLR and those aftermaket warrenties are a bunch of BS the will find any reason to not cover you!

and no lights came on either. it says my warranty is void if u have pretty much anything aftermarket. hopefully i can get away with it. if its not covered then i really dont know what im goin to do. i dont have enough for a new tranny thats for sure. hopefully it just needs to be flushed

Do not even say anything about the springs if it comes down to u needing a new warrenty.. Go buy 9 quarts of honda Z1 and do a 3x3 flush ..
Flushing the tranny is easier then changing the oil..

Pull the plug for the tranny and only 3 quarts comes out , so drain 3 clean off metal from magnet on plug and plug it back up and fill 3 and drive through all the gears and do the same thing 2 more times. That way if the warrenty company checks the fluid its clean and they have no reason to no give u your warrenty!

Flush might be all u need , to flush the whole system and do a 3x3 you need 9 quarts. I would do 3 one day 3 the next day and then 3 the 3rd day to get most of it out. If the tranny is going it will go even with clean fluid so if u do a flush and it runs fine then just let it be!

why people talk about flushing, rather than changing 3qts like dealer recommends? Obviously this does not prolong tranny life, so why waste money. changing 3qt every 30K miles or 3 years is more than enough

He thinks his trans is on the way out and has aftermarket extended warrenty.
IF he never dis a tranny service his fluid is gonna be BLACK and just draining 3 is gonna make it look a whole lot better any bee al least do a 3x2 to mix it up to make the fluid look decent. If the warrenty company sends someone to look at his trans and the fluid is black they WILL deny him warranty work trust me I work with a dlr and work with 3rd party warrenty companies everyday. If they see the fluid is dirty they will say he didnt do tranny service and change the fluid like acura recomends and say NO to his Goodwill, If they see clean fluid and that he took care in changing the fluid it is one less thing the can try to say to deny paying for a new tranny!

agree about the dealer and warranty, but on the other note changing really dirty fluid to clean might actually accelerate tranny failure, so it actually might be good for him (to get it replaced quicker)
