Porsche recall

Choking Carreras

Several hundred 2002 model Porsche 911 Carreras with six-speed manual transmissions will be called in for service to correct an idling problem. A Porsche spokesman says a number of owners, primarily those living in warm, humid climates, have reported a stalling problem.

Porsche expects to notify owners and make the needed correction within a month.

Know I would be pretty pissed if I spent 100K on a car and the
tranny goes out.

Is anything being done about the RSX-S in regards to the engine stability?

All cars have problems. They are machines engineered and assembled to balance needs/wants of the consumer with manufacturers' / shareholders' profit motive and constrained by government mandates. The thing that distinguishes manufacturers is how they cope with problems ("issues") that are brought to their attention through consumers, government agencies, threats of lawsuits et al. From this board's reports of failed trannies, brakes, and other parts of the CL-S, Acura is doing a poor job of coping. The opening post of this thread hints that Porsche is doing a superior job of coping. This is valuable information when consumers are deciding among brands in an extremely competitive environment.

Every car has problems.

The fact that it is a porsche, doesnt mean anything.

Although this part:

"Porsche expects to notify owners and make the needed correction within a month."

Sounds like porsche. Acura would never be able to do that properly. Our cars trannies have gone out, our actuautors have gone out for months now..but still, nothing on Bullitens for acura service...

Well, the number one thing that separates car manufacturers is the engineering development process. You do a good job with that and you will see less problems. I took a total quality management class in college and they used to show us graphs comparing known component and system defects in cars during the engineering development process. Generally the German and Japanese manufacturers curve has a declining trend by the time of launch. The Americans has a rising trend at the point of launch. Problems were often corrected at the plant and on in the field. Not on the "drawing board."
