Poll: CAI Wooshing sound when the engine is cold

I found that the Injen CAI Wooshing and Khrrr sound when the engine is cold bit loud. Once the engine is warm, it sound like stock while driving in the city or crusing on the HW.

I have the following questions for those who have a CAI:

1) Which CAI you have?
2) Do you experience the same Cold Engine Wooshing, Khrr sound?
3) When the engine is warm, what is the noise sound, if any, while driving in the city, crusing on the HW? Stock, or Loud?
4) When VTEC shift to high CAM, how do you describe the sound of the engine? Stock was like some vroom vroom vroom, is it different after with CAI?
5) When you shut off your engine, do you have this pishhhh sound?
6) How do you rate your satisfaction with the CAI sound "pollution" ?

Thanks for all replies

one-xephyr CAI, polished
two-yes, but only when the car is cold-disappears as soon as the engine warms. i do not like this sound.
three-sounds completely stock (maybe a slightly deeper exhaust note) until...
four-the v-tec kicks in and the regular 'song' is less 'sweet', more of a deeper, hollow 'growl'--there is definitely a noticeable change in sound--you have to get used to it. i like this sound.
five-yep, 'pishhhh' with kind of a gargle noise
six-i don't like the cold air noises, but since it only lasts for a couple of minutes, i feel it's well worth the added power--which seems noticeable throughout the power band (don't ask what a powerband is or i'll have to sick tankmonkey on you)

...just my 2¢

have you got a good bark out of second gear, yet??? heh, heh, heh

Oh, Yeah, nice ride. I met a trooper at a light. I guess he was not in mood for a race

Anyways, SilverESS, you are right abiout the cyclone. That series was the first sc-fi I loved some 20 yrs ago

About the ride:

From a rolling start, in D5, jamming the metal to the floor will shift 2-3 with a kick in the butt
From stop sign, VSA is off, D5, another ole' jam resulted in chripping for 1-2 sec, seconds later shifting 1-2 gave a nice kick in the butt again, but sorry I can not confirm that I got a chrip

CAI Sound get muted once the engine is warm, VTEC is sweet as before, but bit louder, louder, yeah, sweet..

EriCL,

I guess you are right, our problem with noisy cold air intake (when the engine is cold) is the removal of the rresonator AND the addition of a metalic sound conductor, the CAI tube.

My theroy is that the sound is coming from the throtle body , from the engine itself, and not it is not the sound of sucking air.

Those kind of noises comming from the "system" were muffuled by mostly 2 things:
1) All plastic Intake
2) A Resonaotr that will trap those sounds in

Yeah, I will buy anything that will correct that "wooshee khrrr" sound when the engine is cold.

Oh Yeah, get this "Active Noise Canceling"

A small electronic device with a small speaker will do the trick!

However, the R&D could be big, unless your run for of one those PhDs acoustic nuts @
http://www.val.me.vt.edu/

and propose our CAI noise problem to be researched.

it's 'cylon' dammit!!!

i usually have the VSA on and try not to get wheelspin when starting off...then jam the pedal and it'll chirp on the 1-2 shift. the type of pavement will have an effect--i usually get a nice bark on smooth asphalt--maybe my car is just FASTER than yours! hahahaha

really, it's a very 'satisfying' event when it happens

...15 minute drive-my ass!!
