Pointers racing with CL

I was just wondering what my car ran stock so my friend is paying for me to run at the track so i can say no to the offer lol. I need some pointers on how to have a good start in the 5AT. I know there's a lot of threads but i tried searching and i can't really find a good one. So if anyone that could help me out i would be much appreciated. Is it better to gate shift or SS. You tell me. There's like a million threads saying that it's all about preference.

torque brake, good tires, gate shift, vsa off.

if u got big ass rims take em off, they'll hold u down. light rims are your friend in quarter mile runs, as well as dry, cool conditions

if your going to track, do the following things

- turn AC off
- turn VSA off
- lower front tire pressure down to 20psi
- raise rear tire pressure to 40psi
- i usually take the driver side road lamp housing off so my CAI get more air
- take subs and anything else that's heavy out of the car

that's about it. the hardest part is working on the launch. try to feather it off the line or else you will get alot of wheel spin. 2.2 and below 60ft are good. that will make a huge different in your 1/4 mile time.

ok i had a question about gate shift. Exactly what rpm do you shift to second and so forth? Do i need to let off the gas while shifting or no?

shift 200-300 rpm before redline

20 psi will kill your ET and MPH even if it does help your 60'. On street tires you really shouldn't go lower than 23-24. I suggest 25. I recently have 10 consecutive 2.1 60's with 25 psi front 40 psi rear.

Identical conditions between the two days. Maybe I was even lower than 20 psi.

But both days were aroud 75-80 degrees and 45% humidity. Car was prepped the same for both days with the exception of the tires.

im not sure if im qualified to answer but...one in gate shifting the 1-2 must occurr around 1000+ rpms early if you hit it perfect you may save a couple 100ths not worth the risk IMO...25 p.s.i up front 50+ rear...no spare, jack run on E ...i have run out of gas twice in the pre stage lanes...hold the break in as little as possible as not to roll and rest your foot on the gas not applying any throttle...on the half way point of the second yellow,in an instant foot off the break, at the same time you quickly give it half throttle...then feed it medium but steady the rest ...let the 1-2 occur and make sure you nail the 2-3 you'll shift about 6900-7000. now just sit back and let the rest happen...ofcourse VSA is always disabled...
