Plug confusion

About 40K ago I changed plugs to the Iridium IX. I actually didn't notice any performance improvement over the stock platinum plugs. Now I notice that my milege ras rolled off about 15% (I have cleaned the air filter and run injector cleaner through). My mechanic tells me that I put in the wrong plugs... that the Iridium IX are a great plug for NON platinum designs.

Does anyone concur with this??? I know of lots who have switched to the IX and really like them.

Would switching plugs help gas mileage??

I don't think you rmechanic knows his ass from a hole in the ground. Iridium has better conductivity than platinum, and lasts almost as long. Besides, our cars come with iridium plugs OEM.

Yup... I kind of thought that he was full of shit, but I thought that I would ask you guys. I thought that OEM CLS plugs were platinum though?

And... a final question... what is the life of the IX plugs? Should I be changing them? I have 40K miles on them.

Appreciate your input!

not go at autozone....you can get them elsewhere or at the dealer (over $20 a piece )

Ummm...no they don't. Just pulled mine out to check 'em this morning; they're NGK Double Platinum P/N PZFR6E-11. You can get a set of 6 here for reasonable $$:

Iridiums are even less...just browse the site above a little - P/N IZFR6K-11.

Try Bosch Plus+4s- I can even burn regular gas on occasion! Mileage up slightly. No noticeable power gain, but smooth running.
