Pirelli PZero Nero's

$140 each...WR-rated, Max Performance category

was toying with getting these (225/45 ZR17TL 94Y) on the new rims and using the Pilot Sport A/S's for winter

comments??? suggestions???

looking at the specs page on TireRack, the 225/45/WR17 is the ONLY tire with a 400 treadlife rating...fits on 7 - 9 in rim...8.6 sect. width...25" diameter...831 revs per mile

Scooter in my opinion do not get these tires for two reasons listed:

1) with lightweight wheels and these tires there is a good possiblity that you might beat me in the 1/4 at E-town

2) see above

Good price, good size will give you more torque, reputable dealer. Sounds like a no brainer

Scooter - I had these on a M6 and they are great tires. It's a no-brainer

A phone call to see what you're getting might be in order...

Interesting...

The Tire Rack page has TWO listings in the 225/45-17 size.

One is XL with a wear rating of 220.
The other -- SL -- has a wear rating of 400. (The only tire with a 400 wear rating.)

Perhaps a check by phone to Tire Rack would help to figure out what's what.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.j...del=PZero+Nero

ON the price sheet, the XL (94 load rating) is $164, the SL is $140.

225/45-17 will fit (no brainer). Watch the load rating (see posting above)..

235/45-17 in *most* tires will fit -- however, the alignment can be dicey depending on the make and model...

I like the S-03s and T1-S. The Nero's are relatively new, so it's hard to know how they will rate in a month or two (only one review on Tire Rack for the Neros...)

sorry to bring this back up, but this idea is making more and more sense by the day...i'd only get the 225/45's with the 400 treadlife since i wanna get as much for my money as possible

there's only 1 review on the tire, so i'd b kinda wingin it...i guess if i don't like em, i could always go back to the Pilot Sports...one concern i have from that review..."The Neros flat-spot overnight, thus feel out of balance for the first few miles in the morning. They are very similar to Dunlops in that respect. " doesn't sound like a big deal but wanted feedback as i'm not knowledgable in this area

not to mention this would b my rim&tire package and don't have to swap every 6 months and pay for mounting, balancing, and alignments on the stock rims...i could just label each stock rim where it was and go from there

I've never had a problem with my Dunlop 9090s flatspotting and my car sometimes sits in the garage for an entire week without moving. The only thing I've heard bad about the PZero's is their tread life. I can't believe they have a 400 rating. They are very soft tires. My Dunlops are similar. Think about it, the softer the tire, the grippier they are.

just got off the phone with Blake...he's personally used the Nero's back in the fall on the IS300 testing cars Tirerack uses...says these r the 1st Pirelli's he's experienced where u can get indications of the tire's limits (apparently, Perelli's aren't the most communicative of tires)...the fact that the tread design is asymmetrical, that helps for rotational purposes, ESP when autox'ing, so at least treadware can b more even (and if u think about it, the SSR GT1's aren't directional either, so it won't look weird when they rotate em)...Blake said wet traction will suffer a bit, however, since i'm currently running the Pilot Sport A/S's, at the very least, wet traction will b the same

as far as the flat spot goes, he's heard of the issue and has experienced the issue...apparently, Pirelli's have a habit of doing that due to compounds used...in Italy, however, they've never had this problem, so i guess it's a climate issue which can't really b helped...but once the tires get warmed up, it'll b fine

TireRack plans on testing the Nero's closer to summer using their new testing cars, the BMW 330Ci's...they got rid of the IS back in the fall...they used the 225/45's that i want for their testing, so at least i'm getting as close to apples to apples comparison

i think i'm gonna get em
