Pingers Unite!

Ok Gang,
I'm tired of my car pinging like a 72 Diesel Pickup. I've read a lot of similar posts on the TL Board and the MDX Board, and quite frankly, I've had it with this POS car.

Can anybody provide me with any links to discussions that have been made in the past? Also, I'm thinking about formulating a list of people with this issue to submit to Acura. Anyone else got any ideas?

Thanks,
Scott in Cincy

PS: I'm going to cross post this to the MDX and TL boards as well.

Well...

This message board does have a search engine, so it could help to start there.

Have you taken your car to a dealer?

"IF" you are experiancing 'pinging' you should see your dealer. That is not a problem that has been reported by anyone on this board..

I have had no problems with pinging. Best thing to do is to take it to your dealer. Maybe you're using crappy gas??

What other issue/s have you had with your ride to deem it a "POS car"?

Well I had a big problem with a noise like that - turned out to be a faulty A/C tensioner pulley, of all things. Got that replaced and no more pinging. I still get an annoying ticking at low rpms that increases with throttle increase. Very odd. Probably just that stupid fuel evap purge thing. Techs didn't find anything when they looked at it. Said it was 100% normal. I still don't get why I've never heard it on anyone else's CLS but maybe I just haven't been around theirs enough. Who knows.

Yeah, maybe you could explain the issues you're having before you go on your bitchfest.

Jrock ~ Funny you brought that up, as I had the same part replaced about 2 months ago on my TLS!

Obviously, I hit a little too close to home for some of you, so if you're offended that I don't like the car, then I apologize.

Yes, I've taken the car to a dealer -- 16 times to be exact. They say its bad gas. I've posted on here about this before, and the majority of people never had this problem, which is a good thing!

There are many upset people on the TL board with this problem though, so I'm sure that it's not just a TL thing, since my CL-S does it as well. I've gone round and round with the dealer about why you would buy a $30k car that pings...but as those people with multiple-transmission replacements will tell you, Acura doesn't care to hear it. If you've had no problems, then I'm truly happy for you. If you have had problems like this, I'd like to discuss it with you -- offline seems to be the method of choice, so as no one else gets offended.

Same dealer? Might want to try another dealer.

16 times huh? Why would you keep going back that many times if they kept telling you the same thing?

BTW, it appears that this is not a widespread issue if no one else is piping up with the same complaint. I don't know why anyone with TL would be different since it's the same engine.

Maybe you should take it to a different dealer/mechanic. Posting here is not going to get your problem solved, or any suggestions that'll be useful... not when you post something as inspecific as "I'm tired of my car pinging like a 72 Diesel Pickup". A "pinging" sound could be a number of things, and may not even be coming from your engine.

You need a qualified mechanic or someone who knows what their doing to isolate the spot where the sound is coming from and then give their opinion as to why. We cannot help or identify your phantom sound with the amount of information that you've given us.

I think this is the first thread we have had where someone has said their car is pinging.

I haven't been reading the TL board, so I don't know what kinds of issues have come up there, but I don't remember any complaints of pinging over here.

As for my car, I haven't had any pinging yet that I know of. I'm using California gas at 91 octane and it comes from various Union 76 stations in my area.

I would try switching gas for a few tanks and see if it helps.
After that I would try switching dealers because if it isn't the gas then I would guess it has to be the fuel system in the car, and it seems like your current dealer is either having trouble diagnosing it or isn't even bothering to try.

Keep us posted because if it turns out to be a problem with the car, then we will all want to know what to look out for.

Well I have seen a few post on the TL board or maybe it was this one. I am on the TL board almost everyday as I have been on the last 2years & this forum at one time was a part of that one. I have seen a pinging post or 2 but its not a widespread problem like MY TRANNY IS GONE . It is also not like the center armrest that has a life of its own. I don't think I would take my car to the dealer 16 times without results. I would take it to another dealer after calling ACURA CUSTOMER SERVICE. I agree with others don't call the CL in general a POS CAR.If this is a problem take other steps to correct the problem.
