Pictures Of My Rim Cracked In Half!!
I was gonna be nice and give ALT a chance to respond to my e-mailSS but its been 4 days and they have not fuckin responded. I bought ALT rims last march and did not drive them in winter. They only have around 25-30K on them.
Heres the story, Saturday night heading to the club with my girl, cruising in the right lane at around 100-120km/h and i approached a bridge where it merges into another highway. Apparently there was a HUUUGE pothole, which i totally i didnt see then BOOOOM. my steering wheel started shaking and i nearly lost control and hit the guardrail. Luckily i regained control and i just thought to myself FUKK i got a flat. Flipped my hazards and drove 40km/h or less on the highway till i found a safe spot to pull over. I finally did and walked outside and saw damn my tire is FLAT, no biggie right? WRONG.!! i jacked up the car and removed the rim (luckily only one was flat) thats when i discovered that my RIM was fuckin cracked , split in two.. i was like OMG WTF. I was thinking how lucky i was that it didnt roll out from the car.. and send me flying to the guardrail at 100-120.
My question for you guys is, i know there is no such thing as an indestructible rim, but i know that rims are not supposed to crack in half like this.. its supposed to bend right? This was clearly a manufacturer defect.
I also called up the shop where i got it from, they were cool and said bring the rim and receipt and well work out a deal. Hopefully its a good one.
Bottom line - buy ALT rims at your own risk!!!!
Well here are the pics:
Looks ok right?
OUCH!!!

Luckily, my rims were 2 weeks old and I sent them back to the shop, who convinced his supplier to exchange them for a different set of rims. Fight it with the seller

Revving at 9K...
Damn that sucks!!! Now you have an excuse to get a different set of rims... Cause I wouldn't risk on keeping those even if they replace one for you, the others might still crack too...

Thanks all for the concern.. im just glad that it was only my rim and not my car or myself/gf.
Well im not rich and have $899cdn/rim to spend on a set of RAYS..thats why i settled for these. I thought ALT was an ok company, but i guess not.
There are many people with cast rims that doesnt crack like this.
FUCK ALT for not even responding ...

That sucks big time, but I think you’re going to have a real hard time blaming this on the manufacturer.
You hit a big hole while cruising on the highway.
I think ANY low profile Tire/Rim would have been destroyed.
Maybe not quite so dramatically, but it would have definitely killed the Rim & Tire.

That sucks ass!!!!
My wheels are the exact same style if your looking to get new one's that are better quality wheels. I'm not sure of all the bolt patterns that are offered though. I can send you a pic if you want, just let me know.

it was just like running through a regular pothole like a loud Thud..like the other times ive ran over potholes, but this time ended in a crash and violent rattling/clunking sound.
im not sure if the tire is ok or not, it was flat that night, it looks ok to me though, not 100% sure.
Liquidx, yes the CRs are nice, but the sad thing I just found out that it would cost me only $60 more for a set... aaahhh fukkkkkkk.
Its $2659CDN for 18x7.5 42offset (will this fit the car?) and kumho rubber. I paid $2600CDN last yr for the crappy ALTs with kumho rubber. FUCK FUCK FUCK!!! I do admit the ALTs are much lighter than stocks though.

I'm on my 3rd set or RH and they are pretty strong. I bent a C2 evo a few years ago but I hit a 2x4 on the freeway at 100 mph.
I know have CP10's and man have they taken abuse, i've hit alot of things that would normal rip to pieces other rims.

Jucee187, thanks for the pic... your car looks good man. Joeshmoe is right, if you want to spend half of what you did before for a simiar wheel, then i suggest checking out the ones we have. good luck man

Joeshmoe, i have the same wheels too and i absolutely love them. i thought that for the money these wheels would have cracked by now (especially on roads in boston), but they have held up just fine. I hope you didnt pay as much as jucee187 did for his wheels. I got mine from www.wheelguyz.com and they were great. By the way, what offset are your wheels and what is the recomended offest for your year acura? Mine are a +37 and a 2k1 should be about +45... i love them though cause they are flush with the side of my car (rather than tucked way in the fender) which gives it an agressive look.

1stGens are i think a 42mm offset stock, the Evos I got are 40mm. They seem pretty flush to my fender as well.
