Performance Crankshaft Pulleys?
Performance Crankshaft Pulleys?
My CL-S 6MT is approaching 77,000 miles and I was wanting to get the timing belt maintenance done withing the next month or two. And since the mechanic will be down there I was wanting to get a lightweight stock sized pulley.
The only problem that I ran into was that I can only find a lightweight pulley at HeelToe website for like $200. Is there anywhere else to get one cheaper? Maybe even get an underdrive pulley instead?

if you do an underdrive, you need a different sized belt, but they can be found for muuuuch cheaper. like $30 for the pulley.
look up 98 accord v6 crank pulley on ebay and see what you find, other than that, Xlr8 is the way to go, and their stock sized pulley for us is $189, and it is a rebadged unorthodox racing pulley, which is best quality...

I looked and all I found was OBX. I am not too sure about that brand. I have seen people on here with the Option pulleys and no one has had any problems. So I will just wait and keep looking to see if one goes up for sale sometime.

Yea, it can affect the A/C. I think it would affect it mostly on how quickly the car can cool the air. Nothing significant though, unless you have an aftermarket audio system.

Another important concern is the quality on the cheap pulley. You get what you pay for. I know many people use it and like it but the UR pulleys, which is the manufacturer of the XLR8 pulleys, are subject to a number of quality control procedures. They are 0 gram balanced and CNC machined. It's hard for people to grasp the precision that goes into making these but on such a critical part of the motor I believe it's important to have a properly machined part.
i agree with that.
so, on a car that has no extra electronics, then underdrive really doesnt effect the a/c?
well, i will do a little more research on here before my future purchase, especially from a $30-$230 pulley.
thanks 4 the responses, and i do agree with quality over price in most cases...

i've heard/read that the underdrive pulleys will lower PS performance also. so will this affect handling over all as well? i mean i'm all for more a more efficiently running engine-->more freed up power-->"more" power but i'm a former owner of an AE86 so handling is something really important for me. although "more" power really is tempting but if i can't control my car the way i want it to at high speeds, i think i'll go with the lightweight pulley...
Yes, it can affect the A/C. But it usually only becomes an issue if the vehicle has a larger stereo (600 watts or more).
