Passport 8500

I just ordered my passport 8500. Giving my parents my xr1010. I want to hardwire it, but can i hardwire it with a regular old phoneline? And for anyone with a passport what do you guys think of them?

I love my 8500. It's a great detector. A while back I had a V1 and the 8500 on opposite sides of my windshield and performed a 200 mile interstate test. I was shot at with Ka band 4 different times. The 8500 picked up police radar earlier than the V1 as well as falsed less. However, as you probably know the V1 tells you where the radar is coming from with the locator arrow. The locator arrow is a nice feature, but I don't think I've ever been shot at from behind. That sort of makes the locator arrow a moot point. Anyway, for $100 less I'll take the ESCORT.

i have the escort 8500 passport

eventhough i have not gotten any tickets with this detector, i do regret not spending the extra $100 for a V1.

Hehe, that's what I use to think, too. That I was never getting shot at from behind. But after getting the V1, I learned that the only reason why I never knew I was getting shot at from behind was because the Passport doesn't tell you this so therefore I always "assumed" it was from the front (when I never saw the patrol car). No joke.

Same thing is true with anything. You don't know how valuable it is until you had it, then lost it. If you've never had it, you will never know. No joke.

Yup you can use regular phone line wires but make sure its the one w/ 4 wires in it instead of 2.

I tried it, but you have to know what is power & ground to hardwire it. I couldn't figure it out. Also the wire in the phone cord is very thin, & easy to break. It's just easier to go to escorts website, & order the hard wire kit for $13. I don't use the smart cord, or want to, so I just got the regular non smart cord power kit. It's also like $20 cheaper.
