I wanted to let you guys know that they are not the stock wheels. i have 18" Konig Caffiene's. So you can imagine it shows more of the calipers then the stock wheels do.

I painted my calipers Yellow on my last Black 1996 BMW 328is. The process took me about 5 hours to do total, not including the drying time of about 24 hours. I took off two wheels at a time using two jacks. Used a air assisted sander and sanded the calipers, VERY IMPORTANT step. If you don't clean them well the first time, then you'll pay later for this mistake, take the extra 20 min. to scrub them down.

Then use brake cleaner to make them clean from the crap you sanded off.

Mask off the parts you DON'T want painted with masking tape.

You can buy the $60 flotec paint or some crap like that but I knew that wasn't the way for me. I went to the automotive store and purchased cheap yellow high heat engine paint (about $2 compared to the $60).

Spary paint! First coat thin, let it dry for about 5-10 min. while working on the other side. Second light coat, you should see less of the caliper now and more paint. I used about 4 coats which made it really nice and shiny.

I had no problems with that paint over the 1 year it was like that, even through the winter and salt. Sold the car so I don't know how it is now, but I bet its still holding up. If you paint the calipers, its also much easier to clean them because they are slippery-er.

I think yellow looks great on a black car with nice wheels showing off the yellow.

Another thing, no matter how bad you want to touch the caliper after the painting to check if its dry, DON'T!!! I did this and got finger prints on it and had to do 2 more coats to cover it up.

Hope this helps, any more questions?

Doesn't sound that bad. I was considering painting mine white, but from your experience do you think it would be too big of a pain in the butt to keep clean?

Thanks alot for all the info M3. It will be very helpful when me and my friend decide to do this sometime soon when it gets nice. I knew it was a long process but not that long. Im painting my calipers red to match the red S and the Red background on the back acura symbol. Thanks again M3, you were very helpful.

I had 17" Milli Miglia wheels on my 328is. If you know what these wheels look like then you know its very easy to get to the calipers when you clean your wheels with a brush or cleaning cloth. The maintainence was so simple guy, you wouldn't believe it! All you have to do is spray some of the wheel cleaner on the calipers before you wash your car and let it work on the brake dust and wash them off with fresh water about 5-10 min. later.

Trust me, you'll love the experience about painting your calipers! Even if the paint is wet, you can put your wheels back on. Your wheels don't touch the calipers so you can jack up the other end and start on that.

If you have the proper tech know-how to take your calipers off the car, I would spend about $10/each to get them sand blasted and then paint them, that'll make the paint really stick!

Also, if you have some time, apply some primer to the caliper before painting. I didn't have the luxury of time.

Another thing to watch for, keep your garage door or whatever open! The fumes go straight to your head! Maybe thats why it was such a 'happy' time

If you want to take them off and have the tech skills to do so, then do it (you'll get much better outcome). I just kept them on my car and masked off the rest of what I don't want to paint and then sprayed away...

Hey guys,

is possible to paint calipers, wait like 4 hours and then put 'em on and let it dry on the car. the reason I ask is, I don't have a garage to keep my car for 24 hours. ANd I don't wanna leave it open.

langjae: You said you had you previous calipers painted blank. Was it a SHINY/GLOSS black or did you have a SATIN/MATTE finish on your?

Reason I ask is that I am scheduled for a caliper paint-job this coming Tuesday and have bought GLOSS Black paint for that. Was just wondering which you had used for that nice look through the rim spokes.

TIA for your help.

It was gloss black. You'll love it. I'm doing it to my car as soon as its a sunny day out on a weekend. i didn't go through all the steps M3 went through. I just wiped it down and it worked out ok. But I'll take his advice for the next time around.

Yes, I'm lazy, sorry to ask but if you want your calipers painted and you don't want to do it yourself, where do you go or who do you pay to get it done?

kensteele: I'll only speak for myself about where I am going to have my calipers painted, and that is over my mechanic's house!

In this case (caliper painting) it's not LAZINESS but, rather, lack of proper tools & expertise that is leading me to his house.

He's going to take them off the rotors but not completely off so that there will be no need to bleed the brake system. He's a super mechanic and (I hope the dealership is not listening) that's where I take my car for service as he has access to ACURA parts at 'his cost.'

Plus, his labor rate beats the hell out of the dealer's service department.

That what I figured. I wouldn't really call it laziness either but I would hate to pull things apart and not know exactly what I was doing. I removed a caliper once before...it was in 1983 I think. Never again.

I painted mine Red about three weeks ago and I've been turning some heads. I love them! It gives the wheels just enough accent but not too much to over do it.

I went with http://www.legendfive.com/caliper/index.html
for $29 vs $49 for other paint.

After mixing it (combining paint and hardner) in a tin can it came out soupey. After waiting about five minutes it started getting thicker and easier to apply. I masked all around calipers and painted them while still on instead of removing them. They are a brighter red than they show on their Web site. Jacked up one side of car putting block under front and jack for back and then did the other side of car after. Fumes are deadly from paint, be careful.

NSXNEXT: Your calipers look good. But, I think too much silver for me: car, rims, calipers, rotors. Yet, there is contrast, depth. I don't know now if I like or ....

I am trying to find hi-temp paint that come close to matching my car color. If not I will just go with the Gloss Black that I already have purchased. The 'New Caterpillar Yellow' looks like it comes really close to the PDG. Don't know if it is available in Hi-Temp though.

how exactly are you all sanding down teh calipers to begin with? Is there somethign cheap that you can buy at homedepot like steel wool or something? Also is ther eany way to paint or fix rotors taht rust? Mine are getting pretty rusty and ive noticed that almost all cars' rotors are rusted. Any solutions to this? THanks.

I just bought my 01 pearl blue cl-type s.
Got the pinsttipe in grey and teal...Looks pretty good but if I did it over, I woul do the top stripe in the "s" red as in on the logo on the rear. But I wonder what color to paint the calipers. I kinda like the plain look without spoiler and air deflector, but I hava a Black Euro Diamante with Red Calipers (factory painted) that have withsottd an year of salt and heavy braking..lol so I guess i wonder..I have less than 200 miles on the car, do I need to primer over the factory 'paint' (silver) on the calipers now, and what color do I paint them. Since the car is the Aegean Pearl Blue...or the closest spelled facimile, should the calipers match or should they be the same shade as the "S" logo in the type S badge itself? Decisions decisions..Please advise...
