Question Painting my 01' CL S

i'm new here so i hope this doesn't sound dumb..

i have a silver CL S and kind of want to paint it black. the thing is, i don't like the way the chrome outline on the windows look with black paint, thats why i bought the silver one in the first place.

is there a way to paint or cover up the chrome (without looking crazy) around the window to get it painted, or is it not worth it to paint it at all??

thanks in advance,
hydro

Don't paint your car at all unless the paint is falling off of it or it's in REALLY bad shape... If resale value is a concern for you, then go for it. It will not increase the value. Paint it a different color, and you'll be keeping it forever... Unless you want to take it in the shorts BIG TIME when it's time to trade it in. Waste of money, IMO.

You can have the chrome painted but I agree, you will be killing the resale value. Everyone will think they car has been wrecked and you are trying to cover it up. Buy a black CL instead because it's at least $5,000 for an okay paint job... $10,000 for a good one.

I think if you do a search on it, I remember reading a long time ago where some members were doing something to cover up the chrome. Look in 1st Gen too. I swear I've seen it. If I remember correctly, there were a couple of good ideas too. Personally, I like it.

$5000-$10,000 is absurd.

No one pays that much for a paint job

That's not true. A really good/perfect paint job should cost over $5K. Anything less and I'd say you're getting a pretty good deal.

I've gotten my car quoted more than a handful of times (20/20 Autobody, PJ Bonifacio's Bodyshop to name a few) and never has it exceeded $5K WITH extra bodywork.

Then again, I forgot I live in California.

Who really EVER pays retail....

location, location, location, my friend...

I happen to actually have my quote in front of me.

Can't say where I got this quote, but I guarantee you they do EXCELLENT work.

Entire Car Paint - House of Kolor Snow White Shimrin Pearl
Extend Fenders 1/2"
Mold Lip Spoiler

Total $4100.

$5K - $10K you might as well put a down on another car.

You want a good paint job? You can spend 20k on one. $5,000 is the minimum I've seen for a good paint job. If you don't mind dirt in the paint, tape lines, overspray, waves in the paint, peeling in a few years... then go spend $2,000.

With a paint job you get what you pay for.

who the hell wants a 20K chameleon color paint job nowadays anyway. that trend ended in 1996.

furthermore, 20K? who would spend 20K on a paint job for a car not even worth that much?

again i say - it depends who you know and where you live.

quality goes to the shop, not to the materials. the most expensive paint out there in SUPPLIES wouldn't even cost you more than a couple thousand.

20K... :troutslap

Painting it is waste of time and money. Sell it and buy a black one. And a good paint job can run you around $5000. You definately get what you pay for.
