Painting Comptech SC.
I've seen some of the blowers with black bodies and some with clear coated aluminum. Is the black custom? How easy is it to paint the clear coated aluminum ones? And will it stick?

Three words: Powder coat it.
Any elastomeric seals in that thing that cannot withstand 400F for about 45 minutes? If so, they would have to be removed.
I am assuming the material of major construction is aluminum.
PM Smitty about powder coating. I did his calipers.

Let me tell you about my experiece on painting the blower. I did not use any primer, however, I did spend about an hour roughing up the surface a bit but did not get every nook and cranny. I used VHT Black Wrinkle paint and have not had any of the paint flake off or not adhere to the previously painted surface. I think it looks a lot better painted with Wrinkle paint. (looks a little evil) If you been to the drags and seen the Top Fuel dragsters with the black painted wrinkle textured blowers, you will like the look.
I spent about an hour taping the areas I didn't want to paint, placed it in the sun for about an hour and applied the paint. Just my experience and has been a good one. cut and paste the link below and view the pics. unfortunetley the pics aren't the best in quality, phone cam, but still can see the effects.
in regards to powder coating, yes it would look great, but i beleive the entire blower would have to be disassembled..ouch.

There could also be the concern with heat disapation with the painted blower. I recall hearing something years ago about not painting the blower as it may retain too much heat and warp thus damaging the rotors.
There was never a real confirmation of this but a call to Magnuson may be warranted.

guess it could happen, but i see no difference between the two paints, ie.. the silver with the clear coat or a coat of whatever color one choses to paint the blower. living here in south fla is hot, and i have placed my hand on the unit several times after long periods of driving wit the ac on, and it does not seem to be excessively hot. i think i recall in your pictures at hopesystems.com that your unit is painted, did your come that way?

Will do, I was at staying at the Fontainebleau Hilton on Miami Beach. I was there Wed through yesterday but was busy with meetings the entire time.
However, I do make it down there for sales calls periodically and have some free time. I'll PM you the next trip down.
You talked to the Airtran Flight 508 pilot??
