ummm...i would have painted everything behind the tip with black muffler paint--not silver. it's not like you want to call attention to the muffler and pipes...and it detracts from the chrome tips--no more *bling*!

just my 2˘

at least you are playing with your car, keep at it

That looks great!! Good Job!

I'be been wondering if I should do mine or not with silver or black.. thanks for posting your pics, that will help me make a decision to do this..

Hi-temp paint.. what temperature is that rated for?? I have seen some that are 500 degree and then there is also 1200 degree..

I would probably use the 1200 one, but is that enough?

Yeah.. I thought about Black instead of SIlver. I figured I would try the Silver first and if I didn't like the way it came out I could go over it with Black..

I really like the silver though, pretty sure I'll stick with it.

Yes, it does attract attention to the mufflers. I have had them painted for about 7 hours and have already had one person ask me what type of exhaust t I put on.

The paint I used was 1500 Degree... and said "Ideal for Headers, Exhaust, & Manifolds"

No cracking/peeling yet, but it's only been 1 day and about 50 miles.

I posted a pic of the paint can I used in the link above, bought it at Wal-mart for $4.50

Looks good. Think I'm going to do BLACK. How long did this take you? What did you clean the silver tips with?

Kensteele... Thanks.

It took me about 3 hours total to do, including the car wash before hand. The most time consuming part by FAR is the masking and taping... I kept looking at the mufflers thinking about overspary from every different angle, making sure I had everything covered..

The only overspary I noticed was a few speckles on the sidewall of the read drivers tire... not even noticable, (think it was blown by the wind) and I'm sure it will wash off next time I clean the tires.
As far as the chrome tips... I just washed them with a sponge when I washed the car, then COVERED them with masking tape. That is probably the most important part to cover really will, because it will get a ton of overspray... good luck with the Black!!

Are you guys sure you’re reading the instructions on the “HIGH-TEMP” paint?

I bought CALIPER paint on Friday and was checking out some of the other “HIGH TEMP” ones.
Most of the paints labeled 900-F or higher say you need to CURE the painted parts in an oven for proper temperature ratings.

The ones I saw say they will be brittle and the paint will flake off it you don’t do this step.

Shawn S -

My paint also said you can Cure the paint by letting it dry for 60 minutes, then driving your car for 60 minutes within the first 8 hours after painting, which I did.

So far so good... we'll see what the long-term results are!!

Either that or make friends with the local PIZZA shop owner and ask if you can “cook” your exhaust system in their oven for a few hours.

On the can it specifically states... "In a Non-Food oven"... Could you imagine someone taking their mufflers into the kitchen oven to cook them???
