Owners beware

I put my car up in the air for an oil change with 49,920 miles on it. I noticed a wet spot on the bottom of my tranny once I got under the car. Fortunately the car was barily under warranty because my dealer had to replace my rear main seal. I aksed if this should have been expected and in a PC way was told I wasn't the first person to have the issue.

Kind of scary.

This is nothing new. Has happened to a few other 6 Speeds on the board as well.

hopefully mine doesn't do it...will have them take a look at the rear main next time the car is in, just to be on the safe side.

Had mine done at 27K. From what I understand, replacing the rear main seal is also part of the clutch replacement procedure. While they're changing the rear main, have them inspect your clutch. At 50K, it may be worth changing if they're willing to just have you pay for the parts.

Good point, when my car was in for state inspection, they told me about the oil leak. I had noticed it when changing oil, but it was only moist, and not dripping. As it turns out, this happens to six speeds because it is tranny oil, and not motor oil. Acura issued a service bulletin on it, stating that some six speeds were overfilled with oil at the factory, causing oil to come out the vent in the bell housing, and appearing as if it was a rear main seal leak. They should drain, and refill the transmission with the proper amount of oil. They did mine at no charge. So I got my tranny oil changed for free, and did not have to deal with the issues that can arise after a major repair such a rear main seal, if it is not done perfectly.
