OnStar - Will not work in our cars starting in 2008
I just received an email from OnStar with their new terms and conditions. One thing I discovered is that they will stop serving analog only hardware in early 2008. I emailed their customer service and they responded that our cars have analog only hardware. This means that unless an upgrade to a digital system is done, we can no longer use OnStar services.
I am still waiting to find out what is involved in doing that upgrade.
Just wanted to get the info out.

Don't blame On-Star as it's our US GOVERNMENT shutting down all ANALOG systems by 2008. Thank your buddy GWBUSH !
OnStar told me they are working on some kind of conversion system for us Analog customers !
Be patience !

The email pointed to this link.
http://www.onstar.com/us_english/jsp...p?cmp=TC_email
Item 12.
I talked to OnStar yesterday and the rep stated they were only working on upgrading GM products. It sounds like they need to get their story straight.
One interesting thing is that the upgrade would be free with a two year service agreement.

It was actually pretty cool when I was in a wreck. When the airbags went off the system called and someone was talking to me while I was still trying to clear my head. As much as I drive the twisties around here it was always nice to know that if I went over the edge that there was a chance for someone to come get me.

Oh well, since my '99 Accord was stolen, I will have OnStar 'til I can't have it anymore.
Plus, I use the phone service cuz like last year during the hurricanes cell phones were'nt working but my OnStar did!!!
It's also kinda pimp 2 when you're crusing around w/chicks & you send/receive a phone call in your car.
I also received an insurance discount.....

Must just be a more powerful signal that hooked you up to a working tower that your portable couldn’t reach.

Shawn,
I have to concur with RJ. I too get EXCELLENT connection just about ANYWHERE esp. where cells don't, like on I-5 going to La in the middle of no where, Onstar rocks !

however, I've not compared my Anolog 2004 RL onstar system to my 2005 Digital Onstar system as I drive RL mostly.......

1a.it has a external antenna not a crappy internal that your hand is blocking half of it
1b.external antenna is higher, so better line of sight
1c.with a external antenna you do not have to transmit through the vehicles body/windows, which block the signal some some
1d.external antenna takes advantage of the roof and using it as a ground plane, which helps to send the signal out and away from the car
1e. external antenna basically always stay vertical, so you can bias it to transmit horizontal, outwards to the towers vs up to space, cell phones you kinda have to make them transmit in all directions especially with bluetooth earpieces (could be in a purse or pocket, and who knows what orintation it be in
2.it is not quite power limited like it is on a battery based cell phone, it can basically use all the power it needs to transmit at maxinum legal wattage (i think 5 watts, might be 3 watts)
3. may have been a completly different system (transmitting technology)
3a. may have been a completly different carrior (don't know know who you have; verizon, t-mobile, sprint, etc., etc.)
just get a non navi mirror and replace your mirror with that, PROBLEM SOLVED
