one question before buying

My CL-S is coming next week 6th of Feb. I would like to hear your opinion on your CL-S before I pick it up.

I have driven BMW 330ci (auto, they didn't have manual), IS300 manual, G35 coupe auto, and CL-S 6 speed. 330ci auto is weak compared to CL-S, not much initial torque. IS300 feels similiar to 330ci. G35 coupe is powerful, but hate the interior. CL-S 6 speed is powerful but it is a FWD.

I am not interested in mod or racing, but I enjoy driving fast on twisty roads. I know 90% of me want to get CL-S 6 speed, but I am afraid that I will regret about it later on since it is not a RWD. People around me told me that if I love twisty roads, then I better stay far away from CL-S.

any opinion??? Do you ever regret buying this car?

the CL-S' handling isn't necessary worst than an IS, it's just different. In the twisties the CL has a tendency to push a lot more than the IS. Since the CL was original designed as a luxury vehicle it will sway more due to the softer suspension setup.

But look at it this way, the price you pay for a CL is much lower than an IS, right? I know you said you don't want to mod, but I gurantee you, if you take that money you save and spend some of it on the suspension mods I have listed below, it will turn your CL into a different animal. Plus you will have much more power.

I think the 330 manual would be the better choice. Power and handling.

if you want to take the twisties fast and hard, your going to have to upgrade the suspensions, springs, shocks, sway's.

stock setup tends to bounce around a turn if the turn isn't smooth and push into it because of the soft suspension.

every car has its weakness in terms of what you want:

CLS6: doesn't handle as well as others
330ci: Priciest
IS300: Slowest/weakest
G35c: Interior subpar

I think you'll be happy with the CLS6 because you can upgrade the suspension (I know you don't want to mod). Can't get a 330ci cheaper (unless used). Can't make a IS3 faster for cheap (upgrading the CLS suspension won't cost as much). Can't change the G's interior (but I guess you can get used to it)

All in all great cars but I'm sure you'll be happy with the CLS6.

I think you will love the CL-S. I drove the IS 300, and it uses rubber bands for a motor compared to the CL-S. My nephew has a one year old 330ci auto that cost him $8,550 more than my new car, and the CL-S can trash it easily. Maybe that's why he took me for a 15 mile drive in his new bummer, and drove mine 80 miles. He now knows he made a big mistake.

The CL-S does nothing to perfection. However, it does everything almost to perfection. When you consider all the competition out there, all things considered, I think the TL-S is the best balanced and for the money, it's a steal.

A guy I work with has a very pretty car, like ours. A Mercedes C-320, and I asked him for a ride to compare it to the CL-S. It is a real nice car, really, but it is north of $45,000!

thank you all... now I thought about it again, well there really isn't that much twisty roads in Silicon Valley ... I will just drive the car stock for a while. If I really want the handling, I can always do what slyraskal and chikai suggested.

Does suspension upgrade cause squeaky noise. I used to have a Honda with Neuspeed springs and Tokico shocks, that car makes a lot of squeaky noise. definitely don't want that on my $33k car.

Don't over analize. You made the right choice with the CLS and you won't be sorry. BMW's are nice, but you'll kill your back in those hard ass seats. The CLS is the best all around car and value.

By the way, nice taste in colors, too.

Replace the tires on the CLS with something more grippy and slap on some Comptech sways...

Your CLS6 will do just fine...

I really want to avoid lowering the car. how does the car perform if only Comptech sway bars are installed ( not lowered)?

There may not be any here in silicon valley, but in sacto....great place to do some twisty runs...hook up with us for atleast a run and you'll see how lacking stock is and even with basic suspension...
