Oldest 6 speed driver?

Ok I can't resist because maybe I'm the winner here. Anyone out there older than me? 55 years young.

Any of you guys think that people over 50 should be driving nice safe Lexuses?

I've got you beat by a little. Remember to always be the right age -- old enough to know better and too young to care.

Well, I'm 19, but my dad drives my car more than me since I'm at school, and he's 53. He says that people always try to race him and some guy even gave him props for the rims.

Born in the 50s. Grew up driving domestics, all that there was back then, altho I had a VW bug and a squareback too.

But once I got my Prelude in the mid 80's I never went back! Only been driving Acura coupes since then. I had the last Legend and now I'll have the last CL, but the Legends were made for 9 years.

Looks like I don't have the "crown". How old is a bit older? And does AARP know you are driving such a car? I think its against their regs.... (except for modded motor homes of course).

Actually, I'm suprised to see the number of "younger" people driving CL's (I'm 36). I remember reading that the RSX was targeted for a 27 year old (mostly male) demographic, and the CL probably goes for a little older clientile, while the TL appeals to an even older audience (just joking).

Coupes are usually associated w/ the younger/single crowd, but coupes have seen an increase in sales from "empty nesters" that no longer need to lug a family around, and want something sporty.

I don't see myself ever driving a "grandpa" car...

The AARP would croak if they knew how much fun you can still have with a car. I can't wait to put the racing stripes on my walker at the old folks home!

I've never owned an auto tranny and don't want to start now. It takes no skill at all (not as much fun either).

Always been into road racing -- on the track, not the street. I have no use for drag racing. Any fool can make a fast car go fast, it takes a little ability to make a slower car go fast. Not that the CL 6sp is too slow.

You've got me beat, I'm only 31. But my old man has a 6 speed (white w/navi) and he's 65! In fact, he was the one that convinced me to test drive the 6 speed right before I was going to put a down payment on an IS 300. All it took was a few minutes in the CLS and I was hooked!

48 here. Started driving Hondas in 79 with my first Prelude, and have at least one ever since.

97 CL 3.0
00 S2000
03 CL-Six

That's the current stable.

39 here. Matured a bit.. traded in an MR2 for a CL-S. Reason, kids always want to go for a "zoom zoom" and it was hard to do in a 2 seater.

I'm 49. I'm amazed at how many youngsters are driving CLs. The styling is soooo conservative. At 20 I wouldn't have gone for such conservative lines.

OHhhhhhhhhh. Now you have my attention. But I want a 6 speed casket for my ride into eternity......

And Starter. I have never bought an auto car either. No matter how fast they are I just find them BORING to drive.

Never raced.. but I would not mind finding a track someday just for grins. Are there any in the DC area that allow rank amateurs?

Summit Point Raceway in Summit Point WV, about 8 miles from Charles Town.

It's a 2 mile road course. SCCA races there about once a month, you do need a competition prepared car and competition license to race with SCCA. There is also a local chapter of NASA (no, not the space people) but I don't have a website handy for them, do a search. NASA is easier to start off in, as they allow you to use your street car.

www.wdcr-scca.org is the link for the Washington DC Region of SCCA. There is a MARRS (Mid Atlantic Road Racing Series) event at Summit Apr 26&27 if you want to come up.

There are also a whole bunch of autocross events put on by SCCA and other clubs in the DC area. Good place to start - novices always welcome.

In my high school days a basic VW bug was about all I could afford and it was a hand me down from my sister. THen a few GM cars, ugh, and a VW squareback (fun), then my first JP car a Prelude, loved that car.
Never went back-- then 2 Legend Coupes and now the CLS.
I'm 47 and loving every shift in this 6speeder, and I too would have liked more sport styling on this car, not ready for Lexus or any sedans. Well maybe an M5!

The Audi RS6 just beat the M5 in Car&Driver as well as the Audi S4 beat the M3 in the same issue...

And the Neon SRT-4 beat the other compact hot-rodders!
