Exclamation OK so my tire is flat... I repaired it, now I need ur opinion

It's in the wierdest spot... not the sidewall, and not the tread... right inbetween. I fixed her up so she's holding air now.

check the video

but i don't wanna run this tire if it's simply going to fail sometime in the near future.

it started off as a slice in the tire tread, and then as ripped open i guess from driving.

i guess it's a matter of time/driving before it happens again.

but I am NOT going to spend 500 on new rear tires.. since they don't make the graspic ds2 anymore so i have to buy 2... damnit.

ok the place down the road says 20$ and they'll do it up.

I'll take it there and geter done.

so the patch thingy I put in now.. will it be removed or..? do they patch over that as well so i'd have 2 seals technically?

That is extremely close to the sidewall. Most places will not repair it if it's that close because of sidewall failure.

i would never drive with a patch in the side wall or an inch away from the side wall. places shouldnt repair stuff like that. lots of pressure on the side way and it can blow at the worst time.

get a new tire

yea but they don't make my tire anymore and i cannot just get one different tire.

So i'm gonna ride it out.

it leaked out slowly anyways so if it goes, it won't be no explosion or anything lol.

And I am not spending 500 on 2 rear tires, F that! I'll keep my fingers crossed and see what happens.

Try ebay for your tire. I also would not ride on that tire. I was refused a patch because it was in that same spot before on a truck tire.

thanks for the advice tho guys, I think I was expecting to get told u need a new tire., But I was hoping for something more optimistic.

W/E I got a spare tire and the jack which only take 5 mins to switch a tire, so it's all good

i don't slalom my car a all, and with winters i take her easy.. so I'm not really worried about some epic tire failure and my car flying off the road.

Actually it was soo slow as I was driving the only way i noticed was by the sound the car was making from the tire/rim on the road. lol

I was suprised to find a flat, i thought it was something stuck in the wheel well scraping against the tire. but nopee

so when it blows out and you cause an accident you will just throw a spare on You dont have to be racing the car for it to go. Take the opinions of the others here and get new tires. 500 bucks would get you 4 new ones, not 2. Search around and find one. Dont risk it on the roads with a home made patch that close to the sidewall

lol... I swapped my tire in 5 mins on the side of the road.... i couldn't care less if I do it again in -20 if I had to, it'd get done...

and the tire is on the back driver's side with the slit on the inner wall....

which luckily is the best place for it to be. if it was the outer wall i'd definitely be worried about G's on turning and the tire bursting or something... but with my leisure commuting I see no EPIC failure of my tire. usually I get mad when things just HAPPEN to my car, but lately (with this car) I just take it as it comes and don't stress about it, and the situation is always under control.

I forgot it only gets to -20 in the GTA not -40 + wind chill like in ottawa where eyeballs start to freeze -20 would be easy like a summer day LOL

BTW when mine had a hole like that It was on the front outer side and it lasted a while you should be fine for the winter IMO

inside is as bad as the outside. same amount of pressure when making a right will be on the inside if u were making a left (make sense?)

If the shop refused to fix it that is because they determined it was unsafe and did not want to be liable.

That means it is potentially dangerous. This is not about you being inconvenienced changing it, it is about potentially having an accident that will put you and the people around you at risk.

How would you feel if someone were too cheap to change a dangereous aspect of their car that results in injuring or killing someone you love?

How would you feel if you were to kill someone because you did not fix it and ended up in jail for vehicular manslaughter?

So you don't want opinions, why did you ask for them?

You could get a single used similar tire which would be much better than driving on that mess.

Bottom line you are being irresponsible, I hope for the sake of the unsuspecting drivers near you nothing happens.

I am glad I am nowhere near you, unfortunately the roads are full of people just like you that don't give a damn.

thanks for the advice guys. I was hoping for some optimisic words of wisdom.

Asking for advise doesn't mean i'm gonna use it. It means I'm taking it into consideration. which I did, and I still opted to leave it since she's holding up.

I got the answer i thought I was gonna get.

LoL and i could just lie and say OH YEA I GOT A NEW TIRE blah blah...

but i'm not

I've seen worse when it comes to tires... much worse. and they were fine. And the whole was very small anyways, even tho u see a gash, it comes to a point at the tire.

but no worries e30 and rajca... you're MILES away from me.

classes???

dude around here people who do tires are ALL CO-OP students who learn as they go. (all of the no name tire shops and big commercial places do that to save $) and they screw up ALL the time.

that's y i only go to Xtremetiregarage

We have the most untrusted auto industry I bet here in ontario, if not canada

it all depends on the shop. if it a good shop they will take the time to send u to class to learn the proper way of doing it.

and then i went to school to become an auto/diesel/industrial tech, and had to learn the same shit again.

im just saying that i would never fix ur tire or drive a car knowing it had a patch like that. but thats me

plz don't think I don't care about your advise. It's just... for me, i'd rather ride it out and see if it takes a dump on me than spend money on 2 new tires on the back... now I did find 2 for about 400, same ones and virtually new, but still that'd be all my expendable $ right now and work is slowing since my business is seasonal. So, it's not justified in my mind, and my driving is local and not highway usually. so IF the tire were to fail it'd most likely be on the road at 60kms/h

Well honestly if it was me, I would replace the tire asap, I had the same problem when I first bought my a specs, day I got them I hit a ginormous pothole, bubbled the sidewall of one tire, and blew out the other.

I was pissed off but just said eff it, spent 350 bucks for 2 new tires.

Just buy the tires and quit being cheap.

just keep an eye on it. but if u get a chance, take out the plug and put in a patch from the inside of the tire. that way its that much more harder to get pushed out.

tru... gotcha...

well more on the tire news...

So my dad tells me my uncle (who has a 2006 TL) bought winter tires and rims for his car. and got charged 1900!!!!!!!!

I told my dad if that was him I'd personally slap him in the face for paying that kinda coin.

THENN... oh this is retarted

my pops tells me about his friend who's a radiologist blah blah, he rich we know. And he just got winter tires for his Mercedes benz... 4000!!!!

and the worst part is I'm not lying, that's the truth.

I swear this auto market is all crooked to shit
