OK now I want headers....

Tangled with an Eclipse with a turbo on my way home just now.

We both took off from a light and I got like four cars on him by the end of second, but I didn't hear him floor it so I don't know if he was trying.

I turned at the next light, and somehow he cut across and got next to me and was revving it so I could hear the blowoff valve.

I took the bait when he took off and followed him past my next turn.

I kept up with him but I didn't gain on him much if at all.

Oh and stupid me had the radio on loud so I didn't shift it very well. I shoulda just left it in auto. :p

Anyway, I think if I had headers I coulda gained on him pretty quickly.
That extra 25-30hp in the high end is key.

Overall no real race since we never got side-by-side to go at it, but I think I could kill him easy if I had headers.

I know what you mean. Not too long ago, I had that race with a GranAm GT, very difficult to blow him away on the straight away and had trouble passing him on the sharp curves.

Sways and springs crossed my mind, then headers later. All that money for the mods. After awhile, I forgot about it.

Seems to me if you get the mods, you end up racing bigger fish, and wanting more mods; where does it end?

Just my thoughts.

Very good point.

Well my springs are in the garage, sways should be here early next week, and headers are what I dream about right now.

I think if I can take the import cars with turbos on them I'd be happy. I don't even care about American muscle when I'm driving the CL-S anymore. But I should be able to kill the little turboed 4-bangers, right?

It never ends! It's tough to stop modding your car once you start.

IMO the fun of modding is not blowing the big $$$$$ wad doing everything at once, but adding/changeing things incrementally over several months. That way you can appreciate the specific value that each mod has added to your car's look and your driving experience.

Well said. I too enjoy modding my car, and you hit the essence of modding right on the spot!

speaking of mods, I am really considering buying a level 10 torque convertor, I think this would provide a good amount of improvement for the money. Does anyone have dnyos for a level 10 upgrade? Whats you thoughts on this mod?

This is exactly how I feel about modding! As soon as your car starts to feel "normal" again it time for the next mod.

Do a search on this topic. I believe SynCivic had a dyno run with this upgrade in a 3.5L CL-S. If I remember, correctly, he said it was not what it was advertised in terms of performance.

Yeah I don't know if it was modded or not. Doesn't matter. The old post is probably gone but it suffices to say when your going over 100mph around sharp turning highway roads in a stock CL, you're going to have trouble blowing the doors off a lot of cars, especially some crazed idiot who doesn't mind almost losting control and swerving and squealing tires. At the same time looking out for the cops (speed limit was 55) and he was ahead to begin with, it wasn't easy in the first 30 seconds or so. Eventually I'd a had him but....so the story goes. This was not on the track from a dead stop....
