Oil change - does oil have to be hot?

Car’s been sitting for nearly 3.5 months and I’m going to change the oil. I have an oil boy “oil extractor” and I know this will collect all the oil. I know for normal drains it’s best to get the engine oil hot, but what about for oil extraction?

It should be slightly warm to help get any possible varnish sediment lose, but make sure is not hot/normal temp because you will be dealing with 1st or 2nd degree burns.

Does this help????

Try heading over to this thread and check out some of the info:

IMO, it couldn't hurt to warm up the car. If it's 30-below, you would really want to warm it up...

Interesting read! Under normal conditions (meaning my car has been driven for several weeks since last change) I would extract it hot/warm. Because it sat for 3.5 months, this raises a question. Do I want to stir up all contaminants or am I better off sucking them up (via the oil extractor). I figured most of the oil is sitting down in the pan (go figure), so why stir up old oil at this point?
