ohms questions
ok i just got a present, two infinity 1230W 12" subwoofers but i have no amp, i read the specs on the subwoofers and it says 300watts RMS i woudl like to use everysingle watt. now my questoin is, woudl it be better to run an amp per subwoofer and how many ohms do i need each amp. or coudl i run just one amp at how many ohms??? and how can i wire the two amps cause i already have the wires. i also woudl like to run one amp for my 6x9's infinity kappas 100watts RMS and my infinity 6.5 in the front 90watts rms so that would be a total of three amps. pushing 980watts RMS total hopefully. i think i;m gonna need to upgrade my wiring, also do i neeed a capacitor for that??
check out www.crutchfieldadvisor.com you should be able to find answers to all of your questions
I personally love JL Audio amps. I have the 500\1 and its amazing. www.jlaudio.com
i though that was only true for max power but RMS is regular like when your car says 300hp and you dy no and you get 215 to the wheels so the 215 would be like RMS.

True but there is a lot more involved.....T.H.D. and at what freq? 10% at 4,000 would be horrible. .01% 20HZ to 20KHZ would be good.

It sucks.
So the amps that claim these insane wattages, you have to ask yourself if it's even possible using physics and math.
1000 watts is just about impossible out of a stock alternator for any real length of time. What most amp manufacturers do is put some capacitors in the amps, so the amp will put 1000watts for a microsecond at some horrible THD. Then label it as a 1000watt amp. Also what class amp is it A,B,C,D...? A is probably possible using 12 volts but, it would be very little output and require efficient speakers.
Granted yes, it did 1000 watts, but I wouldnt want to feed that signal to my speaker.
Watts is just amps x volts. But there is a few other varibles. Efficiency is the main one. how efficient is your amp? most are about 80% efficient. meaning 20% of the power is wasted into heat.
JL makes some good stuff, I have had little to no problems with them. Also Phoenix Gold amps are pretty good from my experience. But alas I have little time playing with high end car amps.
Is a 1000watt system always louder than a 500 watt system?
NO, it depends on efficiency. Granted some laws of physics come in to play (i.e. moving air) but reality is you can make a 500 watt system as loud.
Some speakers will produce 110db of sound at 20watts, where as another speaker will produce 110db of sound at 50watts. Shows the 110db@20watts is a more efficent speaker. better? that depends.
Thats where your Ohms comes into play. It's a measure of resistance. And somewhat speaks for efficiency.
