Offset ? for 19's

My 19's came in and Axis wants to change the offset for my car. The wheel is a 19x8 w/ a +47 offset, they said i would be better off with a +45. They said they will send it to me with a 47 if i want but its my call... wouldnt a +47 be a better choice for a CLS?

OK here is Math:

Stock is :

17x7 +55 with 215/50/17

Your 19":
19x8 and I would assume you are getting 235/35/19

Now since you added 20mm to the width of the tire... you have to get +45 ( I recommend that )

Here is more accurate math, go here and punch the number for what is best for you:

The lower ... means the wheel stick more.. so +45 with stick out more than +47... Acutally with +45 and 235/40/18 mine is pretty flush with the wheel well lip...

Assuming the same wheel width the above statement is correct.

Do not know for sure but with +47 and 8" width you have worry about the inner clearance to suspension. with +45 you will have more clearance..

will it be bad for the car, if i get issues wit rubbing?
i have also heard that if u get the wrong offset,... it will fuck ur car up..."So by increasing the offset you can move the wheel closer to the centre of the car, decreasing the offset too much (more than a few millimetres) can produce vagueness and steering wheel kickback, whereas increasing the offset produces skittishness. It is advisable to keep the standard offset when changing wheels, especially if you are fitting wider wheels as they will put extra strain on components such at the Wheel Bearings, Drive Shaft U/J's and Ball joints. "

im getting 19" with a +45, lowered about 2 in all the way around

thanks

There are struts shocks and spring that you need the tire to be clear from the inner side of the wheel/tire... if you go wider tire you are forced to decrease the offset ....

EricL will explain more..

Mr.Big, since i know your getting the same wheel, did you get it in +45 or +47, i dont know which to tell them, i can always have it taken down to a 45 after i get them. Hard to Believe that that 2mm is gonna make a whole lot of difference.

i was supposed to pick it up today, but they told me they were gonna shave it 2 mm to make it 45. THEY did not gimme a choice. All he said is that it would fit better. I dont even kno what the difference is. When u say its gonna make a whole lotta difference, what do u mean???

BTW, my car is lowered 2 in all the way, dont no if thatll make a diff.

lemme know what u think

i have 19x8 +48 w/ H&R Sport drop minus another 1/2 inch in the back cause of the system and if i put people in the back of my car i will rub. im just a little bit under a one finger gap. you might not rub with +45 if you trim or roll your fenders

Same here, check sig. But if you have a 2" drop all around I think you may be better off with the 47 offset. That's weird though, the highest offset Axis offered me for my Se7ens was 45 when I got my wheels, I wanted to at least be around 48.

I dont think im gonna have a problem with the +47 over a +45. I have comptech springs, but might go to coilovers one day. I told them to go ahead and ship them to me +47 and if need be, i could have it takin down to +45 at a local shop.

Mr.Big, the only reason i got a choice was when i called Derek at Spy Engeneering, he was at the Axis factory, and i told him my concerns and that i knew plenty of people on this board with 19 with +47 and higher offsets, i heard him say something to one of the guys at axis, and then he came back to me and said, well its your choice but that the "expert" at Axis was "positive" i would need a +45 of +47...but i said no, send the +47 cause that can always be taken down, once its gone i cant change it !!!

Ahmad,
You are wromg ...you can make a +45 a +47 but not the other way...unless you will be using spacer

are u sure about this? it seems more logical for a 47 to come down to a 45 after shaving off 2 mm.

Nashua is right. For example, their 19X8 Se7ens are made with an offset of 40, i think, but are then shaved down to 45 for some applications.

Im glad someone brought up the offset dilema! I am also in the market for 19's and im not sure what offset would work for me! I'd prefer not to alter anything on the car(rolling fenders etc.) but dont want any kind of rubbing!

Ideally, you'd want a 19X8 wheel with an offset of about 50 so that you won't rub with a nice drop; but if you don't go with that much of a drop, you'll be able to get by with a drop of 45 or higher (as I am currently doing).

so are u saying that if i have a 45 offset, with a 2 in drop all the way around, and it rubs, i will be able to change the offset to like 47, or 50?? Becasue Axis told me that they were "shaving my wheels FROM a +47 to a +45" in order to make a better fit. I mean, look at soopa's car, it looks perfect with that low of a drop and he has a +45 offset.

Yeah, you would be able to shave it down from 45 to 48. Someone did this to the Axis wheels that they had on a TL, but I don't remember who it was...try doing a search and it may come up. And yes, soopa's car looks perfect, but I believe he had some minor rubbing issues when he was as low as you see in most of his pics, but ask him to be sure.

yeah I'd like to go with a DECENT drop but then again I dont want the usual headaches(camber adjustments, camber kits, uneven tire wear) What do you guys think about 19x7.5?

It'll probably be easier to find nice wheels in 19X8 with the proper offset than something in 19X7.5. You'll be fine with 19X8 and a nice drop, just try to get your offset as close to 50 as possible.
