OEM "Road Lamps" vs. "Fog lights"... trying to verify difference

Hi everyone... I've been trying to find a used set of "road lamps" or fogs for my '03 CL... something to go in the factory location for a retrofit project .

It looks like I may have to go the dealership route and just buy a set to in turn disassemble Am I correct that some of the CL's had the "road lamps" with fluted plastic covering, and that some of the TL's had a more robust housing with metal inside and clear glass lenses (and a larger price tag)?

From what I can find, the "road lamps" with plastic housings and fluted plastic lenses are P/N's 33901-S3M-A02 and 33951-S3M-A02 [about $46 each new] and some of the TL's had the metal internals with more clear lenses--P/N's 33901-S0K-A12 and 33951-S0K-A12 [about $150 each new]?

2 extremely different parts. the openings in the CL bumper and the TL bumper differ greatly from one another so no they will not interchange.

If you want I can sell you my road lamp housing from an '01 in great condition for $30. Let me know!

I wouldn't waste your time & $ trying to retrofit anything. Anything brighter will melt the plastic housings over time. Your better just buying a set of real small fogs HID or similar & mounting them on the bottom of lower grill area.

Thanks Fuzzy! I had read about the melting issues people were having trying to retrofit HID's... I appreciate the heads up!

I debated on retrofitting in road lamp housing for a while, then i decided against it and did this.

Lexus yellow projector fogs with 35w HID's. My buddy with a 2G TL did Audi projectors with 3000k, he did a lot more work since he had to custom make his own housing.

Looks good ChangBanger! I used to have yellow fogs when I lived up north. I find they really help in the snow! Thank god I dont have to deal with that anymore!

Any closeup pictures of how/where you mounted them? For curiosity's sake

looks good one some cars looks bad on some as well. actually it's illegal in ontario canada technically if they are day time running lights and or your headlights.

you need to have a switch to turn them on and off separately :-(

yellow is for fog as it penetrates the moisture better as it does not refract the same as white light does.

it also gives better depth perception, like your snowboarding goggles.

frankly our road lamps bellow our headlights should have a switch in the cabin and should have yellow lights.

Yellow's amazing IMO. As far as my fog setup I haven't finished up cutting the inserts to make them fit, but here's an old picture sorry it's crappy its from my phone.

I wouldn't need a bracket to mount them onto the grill? How would I do that? and I bought Blazer projector HID's.
I was originally thinking ofjust removing the roadlamps and using that space for it

In the grill you would likely have to fabricate brackets. And Fuzzy meant that if you reuse the roadlamp housings for HID's, the housings will often melt because they weren't designed for high heat applications. Now if you make your own mount and housing for the roadlamp opening (like ChangBanger is doing above), you can probably mount them there if they are waterproof, and then fabricate a shroud or cover of sorts to give it a clean/finished look.

If you decide to try it yourself. What I usually do is get them where i want them, hold them in place with tape or something. Then use cardboard and scissors to make a template for the mount you need to make. You other option is to mount them with the brackets they come with under the front bumper or someplace and not use the roadlamps opening. Good luck!
